Welcome to my FF8 review, grab a seat and stay awhile. Storyline The story of FF8 revolves around a 17 year old elite mercenary named Squall Leonheart, a student at Balamb Garden, a school facility that trains students in the art of fighting to become elite mercs named SeeDs. Squall is a very introverted young man. Having personality issues as far as the eye can see. In due time he will change due to learning the true value of friendship and love. Further down the storyline Squall meets a woman named Rinoa. At first, Rinoa does not seem interested in Squall, but as time progresses she slowly falls for him (which leads to some very epic FMVs.) Squall's first enemy is Sorceress Edea a woman who is hell bent on the destruction of the world, after defeating her you find out that she was possessed by an even stronger Sorceress named Ultimecia. A sorceress who is not only bent on destroying the world, but the universe itself. Which leads to fighting arguably the most dangerous Final Fantasy boss to ever exist. The storyline is great with an enticing love story, and many plot twists, however for some who dont pay attention they may not get whats going on for that ill give the story a 8/10 gameplay Junctioning system- This was a brand new game mechanic, this feature made, or broke the game for some. It was easy to learn, but difficult to master as you not only needed to draw numerous magic but also needed the right GFs to truly make your character unstoppable. not to mention using magic that you have junctioned will lower the stat you have put on. Draw system- this was the new system of getting magic, This too was what made or broke the game for many as some didn't have the time to continuously draw spells from monsters. Many preferred this system to the other ways. This method rewarded players for drawing hours upon hours by giving them the tools to become truly unstoppable. ATB- Active Time Battle, standard for PS1 and early PC Final Fantasy. Summed up gameplay comes to a 9/10 Sound While FF8 lacked many tunes, the tunes it did have more than made up for it, whether or not the iconic boss battle tune that plays, or when you clear the Ragnorak. FF8 delivered sound like no other although sometimes it got repetitive you get used to it. All in all i give sound for this game a 7/10 wrap-up FF8 was a great game for its time, and helped put the PS1 on the map alongside FF7. It is a great all around game and is a definite grab for someone who wants to get into the Final Fantasy Series, in the end FF8 gets an 8/10. |
