If I am looking for both accuracy and entertainment, is the Viz a good manga?

It's the only English translation that I know of. If it isn't the only one it's by far the most commonly known.

The Vizbigs are just 3-in-1, and they have more censorship IIRC.

its an official english translation approved by toei for english speaking audiences, making it authentic DBZ memorabilia you can use.

however, since it HAS been exposed as not so accurate i think its commercial use and convenience overshines this.

for people not speaking a second or third language its more difficult to get an accurate reading. If you know spanish or french those translations are much more accurate than the english.

overall VIZ is pretty legit. I just dont like the japanese to english. Its ugly.

Toei doesn't have anything to do with Viz, unless I'm looking at my manga incorrectly. :o_O: Toei isn't mentioned anywhere in any volumes.

So? what does production of the magazine have to do with its contents?

nothing.

toei owns DBZ, do i really need to tell you no one can just do what they want? in the world of business you need other peoples permission to show their stuff.

if you think viz did this on their own without approval then you should brush up on how copyright law works.

its a partnership, so why you think toei needs to produce the book in order to claim its property is beyond me.

i love how the two of you agree on everything, makes you both wrong at the same time.

No

thats for distribution.

toei OWNS all properties concerning DBZ

toys, animation, games use of character in all promoted events.

In order to distribute DBZ, viz would need to either be produced or a partner in collaboration with DBZ/TOEI

and since the anime has grown BIGGER than the manga, everything directly related to DBZ itself is related to the anime.

as the anime is solely DBZ and NOT the manga which is Dragonball.

DBZ is an adaptation of the Dragonball manga.

In other words, licensing rights are only passed along to the guys making money off of the product itself and not the marketed name. DBZ.

So whoever toriyama made the manga FOR owns the manga, all distribution and character rights belong to the biggest provider, and thats toei.

Like stated, the manga related people get a small cut check of the proceeds. But all toys, promotionals, and character references are made by and through TOEI.

I think you're the one who needs to brush up on this copyright stuff.

Until I see Toei's name on a Viz manga, I ain't believing a darn thing you say, sir! Shueisha, Bird Studio, and AT are mentioned. Toei is not.

I guess it fits well in a combo with original Japanese anime, and reading off on Herms.
