At one point in time Goku didn't have the power to stop Buu, but he had to depend on Gohan to do so to get the job done, with Gohan becoming the absolute strongest from then all the the way to the EoZ. Do you think Goku or even Vegeta had any drive at all to surpass Gohan? Do you think those two were just going to let Gohan run away with something like that, or do you think during their 10 years of training that might've been a personal goal of theirs? Were they training to get stronger or were they training to hopefully pass Gohan one day? |

They were training, so that if Buu came back from Good Buu (don't ask me how that's even possible), both of them would be able to handle it. Atleast, that's what Goku said. |

I do remember him saying something like that, but I just don't see those two letting Gohan stay the strongest, and them not wanting to do anything about it. Their whole life they've been fighting to be the one on top, but they just train and compete against each other for 2nd? I just don't see it. Especially when it's in their power to do something about it. |

I definitely think they'd both go for the gold. They're proud saiyan warriors and don't want to be out done by some kid who got a cheap power up. Lots of people don't think they could surpass him in the 10 years. I think Goku could and Vegeta might. We've had crazy gains before like Piccolo during the 3 year android training getting insanely powerful just from training in the outside world with no harsh gravity conditions. I have almost no doubt they surpassed Gohan again by the end. Hell its even possible that Vegeta surpassed Goku and is the strongest character by the end. |

Goku reached his limit and Vegeta seemed to have lost his drive to surpass Goku (in the original narrative). They'll always train but that's only because they enjoy it. |

Both of them still had drive, no doubt. They're Saiyans, and training/getting power is all they know, really. But the drive to specifically surpass Gohan doesn't seem to be present. Maybe it's because neither of them care who's the strongest anymore, but they both want to train nonetheless. |

I think they would defininately continue to train hard. They are pure blooded saiyans, and are never satisfied with their power. They always want to become stronger and stronger. Goku trains to protect all life, and Vegeta trains to keep up with him. So even if Gohan was strongest, they would both keep training to push their own limits even further.

I notice when someone gains an ungodly level of strength in DBZ, all the other guys at least try to get to the same level (mostly just Vegeta, Goku and Gohan.....maybe Piccolo) I can't exactly see Goku and Vegeta laying off just because Gohan was stronger than them. What is there to suggest Goku had reached his limit? He's a saiyan and I'm sure could get much stronger if he trained hard enough. As for Vegeta he had accepted that Goku was better than him but I'd imagine he'd still train, perhaps for the same reasons as Goku, in order to be the best he could possibly be and for the fun of the challenge. In fact I think Vegeta could have surpassed Goku easily enough with the right training and conditions. |

Super Saiyan 3. It already completely expends all the dormant power his Saiyan body can physically contain. That's why in the anime they added the sequence baring Goku's Saiyan roots during his transformation. The form already represents the strongest a Saiyan could naturally get. No. They trained to be ready and handle Buu if he blew his stack again sure to keep their families safe, but both were past the trivial we got to surpass Gohan stuff they were on post cell games. At the end of it they wanted to be the best Goku and Vegeta they could be IMO. If they were solely focused on surpassing him they would just have old Kai unlock their powers and train from there as they would get much closer than they were, and that way likely be guaranteed to dispatch Buu as well with no ssj strain on their body and all that power in their bases. Goku ssj3=Ultimate Gohan. This is true Gohan stopped training for many years. I'm almost certain that the ''Ultimate power he was given isn't permanent Goku trained full-fledge for 10 years Uub, reencarnation of Kid Buu, as strong as Kid Buu, fought with Goku and was weaker than him. That should prove enough xD |

That sequence is filler though. Just because he can't reach a higher level of Super Saiyan doesn't mean he can't make his SS3 much stronger through training which is what they all did with SS1 and 2. SS1 was once considered the absolute ultimate achievement in power that a saiyan could get and was a legendary form without any mention of higher forms even though it later turned out there were. At the time of the Frieza saga a form beyond Super Saiyan would have been unthinkable but it obviously did get surpassed so maybe even SS3 could have been if the canon story continued. |
