The best one Favourite Manga They all suck	The movie was released before the Trunks Saga was in the manga, so TOEI simply assumed that SSJ always needed anger to work.

He just knew he needed to take it up a notch. Vegeta didn't really need anger to transform and he did it fine. I put it down to 1) SSJ transformation is energy consuming, so he wanted to save it for if he really needed it, and 2) He is a Saiyan, he liked the challenge

It was either get whooped or do the whooping; I doubt he'd question whether he should stay in base for the challenge or not. Saiyans like kicking a, too, ya know. It makes the most sense coupled together with the release dates, anyways. His dialogue also seems to suggest that he was pretty pissed. Edited by Kyouks**, Oct 8 2012, 05:38 AM.

Perhaps it could take place in Trunks' timeline where Goku kills Mecha Frieza and Cold although there is still the problem that Cooler makes no mention of King Cold. The way I see it is that it exists in an alternate universe where Goku did kill Frieza on Namek and came straight back to earth without training in space so he couldn't transform at will.
