If i was a fighter, I would leg kick the ***** out of my opponent. I wouldnt aim to hurt them obviously, but those repetitive kicks really take the juice out of your opponents strikes and takedown attempts.

So nobody got anything to say on the Gracie women?

Well anyway looked it up and Kyra was the 1st Gracie to actually compete in BJJ properly. Supposedly is near to making an mma debut though.

So on the 29th....what's that event called? Hoping Dan Hardy will get a win in front of his/my (sorta) home crowd, especially since I just read he likes some of the same music as me lol. He's struggling a bit though.

Oh ok that event is Fuel 5. Guess it's not that important.....

I'm not sure if I have fuel, hopefully I do. Dan Hardy's a really mellow down to earth guy, would be cool if he got a win for sure. Amir Sadollah is a good opponent. He'll play Hardy's game and it'll be a good scrap for the fans. I don't want to see Hardy knocked out like he was against Condit though. Kyra could be really good. Womens mma needs more fighters and maybe a couple years down the line she can face Ronda Rousey.

Ninja you referring to bjj or mma? Makes sense women with bjj seeing as bjj is specifically about defending against larger opponents and well, women tend to be small.

Rousey is insane hahaha. Do you think Santos could beat her? Could Santos keep it on the feet?

Rousey's awesome but Cyborg's a monster. I think she could get it to the ground but Rousey was getting hit alot against Tate before she got her down, though Tates a good wrestler. Cyborg might not be as good a grappler but she probably has a size advantage which could help. If Cyborg flurries she could end the fight in the opening minute maybe. If Rousey gets her down it's over. Really good fight.

actually im referring to MMA, i figured they would be on the circuits doing BJJ for MMA.

otherwise in juijitsu comps, i can imagine them dominating.

Do you guys think Judo will be dominant in women's MMA? In the same way that BJJ is dominant in men's MMA? By that I mean, in men's MMA most fighters choose to learn BJJ for their grappling and submission skills, either as an offense or just to defend against grapplers. BJJ became dominant in the UFC because of Royce, so will female fighters look at Ronda and start to learn Judo?

I don't think so. I think it doesn't have to do with the other fighter's lack of knowledge in grappling but Ronda's wealth of knowledge in judo. She was raised around it and her mother was a high level competitor too. Even if the other fighters trained judo for the rest of their mma careers, they probably wouldn't come close to the same level of skill that Ronda has in judo. It's like someone trying to pick up wrestling in mma that hasn't wrestled before in their lives, In mma they probably train strictly takedowns and sprawls, whereas in folkstyle wrestling you learn tie ups, hand fighting, drill getting back to your feet, certain things that aren't meant to specifically translate to mma but that help you become a better wrestler. Wrestling and judo are both really deep arts and it'd be hard for someone to learn it to the depth that Ronda has learned Judo without devoting their entire focus to it and training with the level of competitors that Ronda must've trained with before she competed in the Olympics but if you focus entirely on Judo than there's not enough focus on the other arts, like striking and bjj. That's why most fighters come from a martial arts background that they've spent most of their young lives learning and competing in, to help them better adapt to learning new arts since certain skills translate and of course the work ethic that they put into one art helps them learn another. If someone were to seriously consider learning judo in it's entirety instead of just throws, they'd have to go the same route that GSP went to learn wrestling, with how he trained with the Canadian national team to learn it, you need high level training partners and to train strictly for the sport of judo instead of judo for mma.

If I had to choose which base I think is the best, I would have to go with wrestling. You can defend yourself from jiu jitsu submissions if you control your opponents hips on the ground. Then you can obviously win if you lay and pray (lame but effective) or ground and pound.

Agreed. With wrestling you get used to weight cutting, you compete regularly, skills from wrestling translate to bjj like understanding your body's hips and the big importance they play in wrestling with a proper stance and the same in bjj with understanding scooting/shrimping to create space from the bottom to setup submissions and wrestlers usually have good top control even when first starting out, that's why wrestlers with alot of credentials usually pick up bjj fast like Chris Weidman, went to ADCC North American trials and made it to the finals after training only a couple months in bjj, he was beating blackbelts who've trained for years and beat all of them by points without getting a point scored on him up until the finals and only lost to a black belt who's considered the best in his weight class in the world. ADCC is considered the most prestigious no gi grappling tournament in the world and he almost won north american trials for it with only 4 months training in bjj at that time. The way you learn to control a person's body in wrestling isn't something you find in bjj. Like how Yushin Okami beat his last opponent by taking his back, throwing in hooks and flattening him out, he pinned his hips to the ground and then started throwing punches and the other fighter had no answer for it. That same position is drilled a ton in wrestling. And with wrestling, you can control where the fight goes, you can keep it on the feet if you think the other fighter has an advantage on the ground or you can take them down if you think it'd work out better on the ground.

Lots of champions come from a wrestling bases too. Dominic Cruz, Might Mouse, Ben Henderson, Jon Jones. Daniel Cormier is a really good wrestler, was going to be the U.S. Olypmic team captain for the Beijing Olypmics but he couldn't compete because his body had liver failure from cutting weight. He's competing in Strikeforce now and has beat alot of really good fighters like Josh Barnett and Big Foot Silva. I think his next fight scheduled is with Frank Mir. He's exciting too and uses his wrestling to keep the fight on the feet and open up with strikes because he doesn't have to worry about being taken down. Even though he's small for his weight class, he ragdolls guys, it's so awesome to watch. Jon Jones is really great too. Some of the stuff he does in fights is really inventive, like the way he fakes a shot by tapping the other fighter's leg just to get a reaction and than does a spinning back elbow while they're focused on not beingg taken down.

judo is what most women learn to begin with, it was taught to the samurai and ninja women, and women have always been accepted in judo circles.

its really just a form of wrestling that concentrates on locks and hip throws.

as for it being dominant? it will be used quite often and effectively. Any kickboxer coming into MMA is gonna learn quick that getting swept off of your feet is a nono.

I usually study kung fu, but there are so many style, pau kua, and shuai juo are shaolin wrestling and joint locking styles, very effective.

judo and jiujitsu are proven effective also. Dangerous points of it.

So yeah, i can see it dominating in womens MMA as an effective counter attack measure, unfortunately it could get out of control like it did in UFC and no one wants to strike anymore. You get more points for individual take downs, thats just lame.

UFC hit Nottingham last night.

Dan Hardy beat Sadollah. Not seen it yet, but apparently Hardy focused more on wrestling.

Brad Picket and Stefan Struve won, and Andy Ogle lost to Akira Corassani is all I know. Uncle met and got a pic with Andy Ogle after his loss.
