Yep that ***** was crazy. Very much like the Street Fighter games except without all the powers. But I mean in regards to all the wacky characters and barely any rules. Like this guy who used to wear one over sized boxing glove on his right hand. I seem to recall one of the Gracy's dominating this huge mustachioed man too. |

There's no technique in eye gouging someone or hitting someone in the groin, it requires no setup, it requires no skill and there's no honor or respect for the other person's well being in trying to permanently blind someone or permanently make someone unable to have kids by hitting them with groin strikes. Martial arts aren't about hurting people, it's about self defense and learning discipline, you don't go out of your way to hurt someone if you're defending yourself. It's not a game either, they're real people and they train for months leading up to a fight, they put everything on the line for a fight, most undercard fighters don't make more than 20k for the fight excluding sponsors and than a majority of that goes to their trainers, coaches, traveling expenses, bills since most fighters don't fight more than 3 times a year. For the amount of money most fighters make, no one would do that and I personally wouldn't want to see someone get permanently hurt because someone wanted to win a fight. And bjj is effective, even with knees to the head, bjj was built on the foundation of taking what was considered a less than dominant position, being on your back and turning it into a neutral or even offensive postiion by being able to attack off your back. There have been fight organizations where people were allowed to knee a downed opponent, look up Pride, which was the premiere fight organization until the 2000s, one of their top fighters at the time was Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira or Big Nog, a bjj practioner who won fights after taking a beating and then coming back and catching someone in a submission. If you added knees to a grounded opponent to an art that focuses on controlling another person's body through leverage like wrestling or bjj, that'd give wrestlers even more tools to win a fight, since they can take dominant positions like north south position and than start throwing knees. |

I have to repeat this, because its true. Despite how i feel about hardcore competition, this is always how true martial artists operate. |

I'd much rather watch two proffesionals do it. Oh man that gives me an idea. How about they do a thing where multiple people fight at the same time? That would kick *****. |

Think you're getting a little off topic, the thread is for the discussion of mixed martial arts, fighters in mma, organizations surrounding mma and individual martial arts which make up mma like talking about the mundials and world championships for bjj, boxing matches, NCCAs for wrestling, anything pertaining to martial arts which encompass mma. it's not a bloodsport and that's not the sort of impression I'd want to give anyone who visits this thread that might not be familiar with it. Footage from the movie Choke starring Rickson Gracie. Shows him training on the beach, doing ginastica natural which is a brazilian exercise routine that bjj practioners often do and there's some really awesome scenes like him at a waterfall. Can you imagine what it must be like to grow up a Gracie? That'd be such a trip, growing up in a warrior family like that. Edited by Pylons, Sep 24 2012, 12:21 AM.

You can still check those kicks.. If a guy is an aggressive/fast striker (AKA Vitor) What's the best way to keep them at bay? Kicks to the knee. Vitor knew what he was doing and knew they were coming. Its a apart of the game and until they are banned, they should be used to full effect. |

lets put it this way, the strikeris also putting themselves at risk, so the decision to throw such a complicated kick is already a do or die. many a video of guys breaking their OWN leg, playing roshambo. banning knee kicks could be considered, but not leg kicks in general. A direct knee strike could be crippling, but most leg strikes arent for the knee, but the shin. Edited by Paikuan extreme, Sep 24 2012, 03:05 AM.

I would never say to ban general leg kicks. I want it to be as real as possible, but not with any easy win methods (finger breaking) and with fighters being able to have long careers, and live lives after their mma career. I know that they signed up for it, I get that, still though so many fighters I think aren't happy to do it, so it should be banned imo. |

Jones doesn't need the knee kicks though. He could use all sorts of kicks to keep range effectively like the side kick he hit Vitor with in the solar plexis/ribs that made Vitor buckle or just a simple teep kick. With his long legs, reach and wrestling ability that allows him to open up without worrying about being taken down, he has so many options striking wise I would think.

I understand how they'd be useful for defense by controlling distance and making it harder for the other fighter to really plant their feet to throw strikes with power but I wouldn't use them if I were a fighter, just seem sort of cheap. |

In competition i can see that, even the thais mainly use it for blocks in the ring, they dont do all the tony jaa stuff. |
