The Infamous "Fan" Scene

I think most of us know which scene I'm talking about. This scene is probably considered the single worst scene in GT, or even one of the worst in the entire series, and in my honest opinion, I think that's entirely the FUNimation dub's fault.

In that dub, Goku reaches the fan and immediately begins worrying because he can't fight Si Xing Long (Nuova/Nova Shenron) in close quarters due to Si being too hot to touch. He says he's got two choices: stay and die, or jump through the fan, the latter of which he doubts his ability to do.

BUT, in the Japanese dub, this is radically different. When Goku reaches the fan, all he says is "Dead end!" When Si gets closer, Goku faces the fan and realizes it's his only way out, then says, "All right!" and jumps through it. There is no hesitation on his part, there is no doubting of his ability to get through it, there is none of that crap the FUNimation dub fed us.

So that's another GT "plothole" dispelled, at least on this site.

Yeah, the English dub really just destroyed that scene. I have no idea why they decided to go that route when they could've easily left it as it was, but then, FUNimation is known for adding dialogue into scenes that didn't originally have any.

I just got irked by people pointing this out who obviously haven't bothered to see the original version, yet still bag on the show.

Well it looks like my next step is to check out the original version then. Seems like a lot of things makes more sense.

A lot of things do make more sense in the Japanese version, and not just from a battle powers perspective. It also sounds better to me, but I just dislike the English music and voices for GT...

Well he must have been somewhat hesitant or else he wouldn't have called it a dead end. He would have just gone right through it to begin with.

I was waiting for someone to bring this up. I think it was more a dead end in the sense that there were no more tunnels to traverse through in order to avoid Si further, like he had been doing. He was literally at the end of the sewer system. When he realized he had to get further away and there were no more tunnels, he immediately hopped through the fan.

YES!! yet another person who ha learned that funi dubs are super crap and basically make their own story.

nothing wrong with changing the script, they did creating voltron and robotech completely. Both of those shows were actually created from two other shows put together and then dubbed over.

but at least let people know. Geez. <_<
