Here, I'll compare the voice actors. Son Goku Masako Nozawa Well, it took me a while to get used to her voice, but it actually grew on me. It really does suit Goku well. Sorry about what I said about the Japanese seiyu in the Japanese better than FUNi dub thread. Ian James Corlett His voice made Goku sound happy go lucky and really fits too, but when he screams, it sounds like he's grunting too much or taking a dump. Still a good actor. Peter Kelamis Good replacement for Ian, and sounded a slight bit like Masako Nozawa in the Ocean movies. He really put effort into those. Shame he didn't put much effort into the AB Groupe/Westwood Dub. Sean Schemmel After rewatching the Ginyu and Frieza sagas, his voice really pissed me off. He was so damn annoying and sounded like a total dumbass and takes a dump whenever he groans in pain. Luckily, he was tolerable from the Trunks Saga and to the end of the series. Same with Kai, he sounded more tolerable. Son Gohan Masako Nozawa Wow! She really makes Gohan sound like a 4 year old and over. It really fits a lot. Makes him sound cute as a kid, OK as an adult though. Saffron Henderson She did pretty well as Gohan in the Ocean dub, but didn't get the emotion right though. Stephanie Nadolny God, I hated her voice in the Frieza saga. It sounded like Gohan was smoking too many cigarettes. I hated it when he said 'DON'T LAUGH!' God I hated that voice. It was tolerable in the remastered dub, but what really pissed me off is that Gohan went back to sounding like a smoker in Gohan Attacks. Colleen Clinkenbeard She's a decent Gohan, but nowhere near Masako Nozawa's amazing performance. Vegeta Ryo Horikawa His voice is really good. He sounds natural and sounds more like a Saiya-jin. Brian Drummond Not the best Vegeta, but boy could he scream. If he wanted to improve, he should've used a more natural speaking voice for Vegeta. If he did that, you've got the best dub Vegeta. Chris Sabat A terrible imitation of Brian Drummond in the Ginyu Saga to the Cell Sagas. Not to mention, when he changed his voice years later, he could not emote or scream for crap. Tolerable when talking, but JUST CAN'T SCREAM! He's decent in Kai though. Piccolo Toshio Furukawa He's pretty good as Piccolo. Better voice acting than Chris Sabat though. Scott McNeil Many Ocean fans loved his performance and boy, can he scream in Dead Zone and the Ocean dub of the Cell Saga. Didn't put much effort in early episodes, but he did later on and really sounded like a demon. Chris Sabat Once the Frieza Saga started, I bet Scott McNeil was ashamed of this. I thought Piccolo sucked when Chris played him in that saga and onwards. Didn't get redubbed at all. As FormidableWarrior pointed out on YouTube, he does sound constipated and sounds like a grunting ogre who can't emote for crap. Quite decent in Kai. Freeza/Frieza Ryusei Nakao His voice sounds really good. He is the best voice Freeza voice in DBZ and Kai. Even his lines can send chills down your spine. Pauline Newstone Doesn't fit Freeza at all. Sounds like an old grandmother as Chris Psaros pointed out. But she did make Freeza sound threatening. Linda Chambers Young Again, doesn't fit Freeza. I hated her voice when she did Freeza's final form voice. Only redubbed one episode with him in it. Also makes Freeza sound like a smoker as some people pointed out. Chris Ayres This is more like it. At least we finally got a man to be Freeza. He's pretty good, but some people might disagree. I think he sounds a bit like a British Queen as FormidableWarrior pointed out. Gotta give him props there. Afraid he's right. Kaio-sama/King Kai Joji Yanami His voice was actually very good. He made Kaio-sama sound like a wise, old lovable character. As he was a Martial Arts master. Don Brown Not that fit for the character, but he is a pretty good actor. Some times the snorts get irritating. Sean Schemmel I'm sorry, but he sounds like a retard with a lisp and a rasp. I can understand why Chris Psaros and FormidableWarrior hate it. Kaio-sama's a lovable wise character, not a retarded catfish with a lisp. MORE COMING SOON So what do you guys think? I'm not a troll or anything, just stating opinions on these voices. Feel free to comment. Edited by dbret12, Sep 7 2012, 02:45 AM.

In general I prefer most of the FUNi voices. Although I do also have some nostalgia for the Ocean dub having grown up watching lots of both dubs on Cartoon Network/CNX/Toonami UK. Here's my opinion on a few of them: Goku Sean Schemmel>Ian Corlett>Peter Kelamis>Kirby Morrow>Blue water dub voice at the end of DB>Masako Nozawa>Blue water dub voice in GT>Big Green dub voice For me Sean IS goku and always will be. He does a great job on both his goofy side and serious side. And I know some will disagree on this but I just love his "Ally to good nightmare to you!" speech. Corlett was great too and sounded very heroic while also being able to sound carefree and goodnatured. Kelamis I also thought was very good and sounded very similar to masako while screaming. His voice had a unique sound to it. He was able to sound very goofy and very intense too. He did seem sort of saturday morning cartoonish but in a good way. Kirby Morrow while sometimes sounding a bit too cool and collected was still a good goku. The problem is that he used the exact same voice in LOTS of other roles. The voice goku had for the piccolo jr saga blue water dub seemed like a very different take on the character but suited him at that age somehow. He sounded like a real teenager and sounded young and heroic and did a pretty good job. While I like Masako's goku I generally prefer to watch DBZ in english. Its a very good and fitting voice with great screams. My preferring the others is mostly from just preferring an english dub. The one he had as an adult in the blue water dub of GT was just a weak kirby morrow impression. Tolerable but didn't suit the character at all. As for the big green dub voice well I'll just say that I can tolerate it only if the TV is on mute. Vegeta Chris Sabat>Brian Drummond>Ryo Horikawa>Blue water GT voice>Big green dub Sabat has always managed to portray vegeta's pride and arrogance to the full. While he needed work at first I somehow like his drummond impression(probably from growing up with it). He now sounds cool, collected and very proud and angry which to me is what vegeta should be. Drummond early on made him sound like a true sadistic psychopath which was pretty damn awesome. Later on when vegeta went majin he failed to sound as evil and twisted. Still he sounds very good and did make the OVER 9000!!!! scene famous. Again for the japanese vegeta its just a case of me not watching enough of japanese DBZ to really get used to it. Good voice though. Vegeta's blue water dub voice was pretty poor and made him sound too old, even though he was old it just felt unfitting for the character. Big green dub. I'm not gonna bother. I might do more when I have time. Edited by 90sDBZ, Sep 7 2012, 01:48 AM.

| "The future of Gohan. The Future of Chi Chi. Not to mention the future of the entire universe. It all depends on me!!!! And I don't care if you're a million times stronger than me! I'm not going to let them down! So get ready Frieza because this time you're going Down!!!" | |

So basically you're saying you prefer the japanese voices. Could have made a shorter thread. I can't understand how anyone can actually like Masako Nowzawa or whatever the hell her name is. She's an old lady voicing a fully grown man. I've seen and heard some weird things in anime, but that ***** takes the cake. Her voices is like nails of a chalkboard when she screams or does a kamehameha. And she voices Bardock, Gohan, Goku, AND Goten. That's a lot of screechy old lady voice to tolerate. Any english voice is better than the japanese voice for me. The japanese voices can be very annoying, and at least with the Big Green Dub, though it has japanese music, at least it brings classic lines like "Let that child alone!" and "Ofcourseeveryoneofmyracecanbecomeagiantgorilla!" It's awful, but you can laugh with it. |

I am currently watching the english version of season 4 of Dragon Ball Z and i have got to say in my opinion... Vegeta's new voice sucks! I hate it so much, it completely throws me off. It sucks they get us (or at least me) used to the original, seemingly more brutish voice of Vegeta then change it. Man ill never get used to that. |
