It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

I would like to point out that this discussion was never about god, therefore, please keep religious references out of this topic. Also, please be courteous to rule #1. Everyone has differing opinions. Whether or not you find that person's opinion ridiculous or disagreeable has no bearing on your following of rule #1. You must be respectful of others' opinions. With that in mind, I encourage a healthy, friendly continuation of this debate.

Thanks,

Necisexy.

Well what I'm trying to argue is that everything that happens is predetermined. That would include evolution. What Wolf was saying is correct.
Have you even studied evolution if you did you would understand it's not predetermined.

You're still not understanding my point of view. My point was that every event in the universe is predetermined because of cause and effect. A chain of events that has been unravelling since the beginning of time. Everything came from a single point and therefore everything is connected. Think of it as a 6 billion year long domino topple if it makes it easier to understand. And they're still toppling as we continue this pointless and answerless debate.

Pelador, you are not describing destiny, you are describing consequence. If you went to a shop and bought a newspaper and ran into a girl and fell in love and got married and lived happily ever after then it isn't destiny. Sure, destiny is a nice thought but really it is a consequence of your actions. If you had not gone to the shop at that time and waited 10 minutes then it wouldn't have happened. You doing all this stuff is just a consequence of you going to the shop at that time. That doesn't make it destiny. There was some caveman however long ago who stepped on a bug that made that happen. It was you. We have control over our own lives. Nothing is predetermined.
Is it too late to tell you that I don't mind.

Destiny is the final result of consequence. So when we reach the point of death, our destinies are finally revealed. It's basically a way of saying "this is what I did with my life". Works for anything that has an ending. Which is technically everything. So the destiny of a toaster is to make toast and then break down. Then get either thrown in a landfill, repaired or recycled. And I don't think we do have any control. I think control is an illusion. None of the decisions we make are truly our own. It's all influenced by other factors. And you'd be amazed what effect a single caveman standing on a bug would have on the history of the world.

You guys are over thinking Destiny.

Sure, maybe we are destined to some crappy fates , the world as a whole.

But our own destinies will always be chosen by us.

Going by the correct definition of 'Destiny' there is one thing that is universally destined; death.

No matter how we live our lives, no matter what choices we make, we will all eventually die. Excluding that, nothing is 'destined'.

I don't think destiny really exists. It's all just a consequence of your actions. A lot of religions even claim that people get to make their own choices. Personally, I do believe in God, but I also believe that God allows us to make our own decisions...if you want to look at the consequences of your own actions as "destiny", then so be it, because that's honestly the closest you can get to "destiny" in my opinion.

Another way of looking at it. If you make one choice, then *this* is "destined" to happen. Make another choice, and *that* is destined to happen. So, again, the closest to the definition of "destiny" you can get is the consequences of your own actions, which in a sense, isn't really destiny at all. Hope I made sense.

Oh yes, and I do also believe that death is also the only truly "destined" thing.

Your vision of destiny is being confused with cause and effect. This happened so then this happened because of that. The second event wasn't the only possible outcome but only one can happen so it looks like it had to have been the only way.

^If you set up a line of 100 dominoes like this, and knock down the first 1, the 1 at the other end will fall, because the knocking down of the 1st 1 indirectly caused it to fall, via all the other dominoes. Same thing applies to everything else.

That's not a accurate analogy because not everything works that way.

Are you implying all destinies are connected?
