I didn't say anything about God :p

Nothing is random. Everything happens for a reason. Cause and effect, ect. Having a destiny means that I am predetermined to do something and I can't avoid it. Past events have shaped how I will live my life. There will only ever be one outcome.
Well then what predetermines your destiny? I can choose to kill someone and spend the rest of my life in jail. I can either dump or marry my gf. These choices are not predetermined therefore there is many different outcomes.

One problem with your logic is that there is no god.

A better question how can you prove he does exist. I can't necessarily disprove a god exists but there is strong evidence and facts that negate any need for a god to exist. If you want them and have an open mind I can refer you to some.

How troublesome. This debate was inevitable. There's no way any semblance of 'destiny' can exist without there being some sort of driving, existing force behind it, namely a Deity of sorts.

I for one, believe in neither. To think that it was a plan or 'destiny' that a person could, say, shoot and murder a multitude of people is a rather depressing thought.

If destiny is the way pillowdoor is explaining it and god has everything written set in stone then we are just puppets in his play predetermined for heaven or hell which contradicts the bible. So no destiny does not exist. We make our own choices and that's the way it is. The leaf choking the dog is just cause and effect not destiny. Our brains are wired to look for patterns so a way to explain random events that lead to something good or bad someone called it destiny just like when we couldn't explain lightning it had to be god but we know now that isn't true.
Well I never mentioned God, and I don't think "Pillowdoor" did either.

edit: there doesn't need to be a deity for destiny to exist. Destiny is just things happening as a knock-on effect of other things.

What things exactly? No such reaction or knock-on effect in history has caused an entire species to follow a pre-determined life.

For destiny to exist there has to be a god behind because there is no other explanation of how destiny is, it doesn't just come from nothing.

Already said it twice before in this topic.

Reason you as an individual do anything/are motivated to do anything is a combination of genetics and your environment.

Yes, but when I'm 10 years old, is it determined that I'll, lets say, marry someone? Is it my destiny to do so? Or is Destiny impossibly adapting?

That doesn't answer how your life is predetermined by destiny.

No, everything is not predetermined at any set time, it adapts as you go through various experiences. However, ultimately how your brain changes is not under your control. Like if you go through a traumatic experience, you could go for counselling, but whether or not you choose to go for counselling depends on other experiences in your life.

edit: I guess it depends on what you think destiny means

''The events that will necessarily happen to a particular person or thing in the future.''

That's the definition I've got, anyway.
