From what I remember, Gray Buu seemed to have the edge over Good Buu and if Good Buu is as strong as Fat Buu who beat Gohan who I'm assuming was ss2 when he fought Fat Buu even though there wasn't lightning, then Gray Buu would probably beat Vegeta. Gray Buu also seems to have a no nonsense ruthless attitude with the way he killed the gunman who shot Bee.

I have Good Buu and Gray Buu as parts of Fat Buu, roughly at around half of Fat Buu's power (Gray Buu probably being the stronger of the two). So yeah, that's why SSJ2 would stand a chance against him IMO.

Vegeta being a Majin would help him greatly in terms of what his body could handle. Vegeta would have a 50/50 shot. He would be stomped in a straight battle. He could win if he got Buu to pull a Cell and take the Final Flash, which he was the only one smart enough among the Saiyans to understand about Buu was that you had to incenerate not punch him
