Dittos has the ability to reshape it's cell structure to transform into whatever it sees and gain their abilities. I'm not sure if it can gain the abilities of non pokmon but it has been shown in the pokemon manga to be capable of turning into humans by turning into Ash. Ditto cannot however, replicate the strength of another pokemon. Ditto can also change to look like things off of it's memory, like inanimate objects or people but sometimes it forgets some features like a person's face. If Ditto were to face Yamcha, could he defeat Yamcha? Krillin? The closest thing to a fight with Ditto that took place in the series was when Mr. Popo created a copy of Goku using his hair. The doll though had a serious advantage that it could sense while Goku was still undergoing training learning how to sense from Mr. Popo Here's the episode of it if you want The main difference is though that Ditto can't replicate a pokemon's strength like the goku doll however Ditto in a later pokemon game, has an ability called Eccentric, which lets Ditto copy the exact stats of the opponent. So if Ditto were able to copy the exact strength feats of the dragonball character he's fighting and has their abilities, could he defeat anyone from the original dragonball cast? And a machoke is probably as strong as early db goku, so a ditto has probably gone up against pokemon of similar speed and strength as dragonball characters. Maybe he's not completely out of the fight?

I'm assuming that in a fight like this HP, so while Ditto has the same power, defence and speed as his opponent, he has less HP (or more?).
