Ok I understand Chi Chi is a overprotective mom, she should be. She has two babies that she is willing to die for I understand that. But she has moments where she wigs the hell out when she doesn't need to.( May be fillers I don't know) But I felt that she could be calmer in some situations. When she got old at the EoZ for example, that's like the first time she's was mellowed out and not raging out.

Goku has put that woman through a lot, she almost lost her kids numerous times, a couple times she has. But I feel that she can rage out when she doesn't need to especially on others. I respect the hell out of Chi Chi for looking out for her kids and even Goku sometimes but she doesn't have to be as strict and mean at the same time too. That's what I think.

But I'm guessing I'm expecting her to mature more as she grows but it may not just be who she is.. I don't know.

In the end Android 18 was a female fighter just like Chichi, Launch, Videl, Pan (didn't turn ssj), etc who got put to the side. Whether you like it or not it's true.

The hate on any character is ridiculous, but it happens. I hated on Pan plenty of times just as people do with Chichi. However, I have to point out some things they probably miss or tend to focus on too heavily. Just like the hate on Chichi is silly too. I'm just using other examples of other characters that people love. If you don't like Chichi that's fine, but some of the comments on here were ridiculous.

I don't mind people hating on her. I just want to give my point of view of why she is not as BAD as people make her out to be. She is cool to me. Yeah, I am biased for Chichi being my favorite, but I did back up my reasoning with some facts.

I guess to each their own.
chichi just annoys me i dont hate or dislike her like i do with vegeta and hercle.

And no im not talking about 18 being side character or not im just pointing out she and 17 were around the same power yet she got fodderizes which is one of the many reasons i dislike GT

The thing about Chichi is that she was purposely made to be like an overprotective, overbearing mother that are typically seen in Toriyama's culture. This is how they discipline in their culture by yelling or shouting. Chichi is a stereotype of the women from their culture plain and simple.

She is a physically strong, but angry person. It's how they view their women. Conservative, yet strong, and affirmative. It''s why she dresses conservatively throughout the show with her hair in a bun.

Watch any stereotypical asian show, and it is the same with a lot of them. Journey to the west princess iron fan was the same way. When she didn't get her way, she yelled and she was an angry mother who protected her son when need be. Oh and she could kick ***** too because she trained in the same school as Sun Wukong. Familiar isn't it? Chichi trained with Ox King who trained in the Turtle hermit school where Goku trained. To a lot of Japanese, this aggressive behavior by mothers is normal.

You also have to take into account that she had NO mother so basically she is going on first hand situations. Being a mother, was new to her. She mellowed out with Goten. Goku had no parents, and it showed with his carelessness. It was going with how she thought was best for her children at the time.

Bulma as a first time mom, as Kblo pointed, went near the battlefield with Trunks because she thought she was still her spunky, single like self.

The fact of Chichi being fighter is what makes her cool. Chichi could have showed MORE maturity as she did in Future Trunks timeline, but once again, it was the FANS not Chichi who caused this. The fans did not want Goku to die. It was plain and simple.

As for 18, by the GT time she probably had not fought in awhile or done any training. I know she can't lose her power, but she should have been haxed like 17, but was not for simple reason. GT had a lot of flaws I agree, but I was using it as an example to prove about attacking with blind rage.

If people want to analyze a cartoon(yeah it's a cartoon that's basically what anime is) which hardly left room for any character development since it was all about fighting and explosions why not look for reasons behind Chi-Chi's psyche?

How about the fact that Goku always put his life in danger? Could result on her being over protective of their kids not wanting to lose them, especially after Goku dies against Raditz. Goku much older and much more experienced dies what would make her think Gohan stands a chance? then they have Gohan go to a whole other planet, then when it's all set and done Goku goes missing for long time, he comes back only to go out fighting big enemies again in which he ultimately dies and decides to remain dead. Even at the end of Z Goku goes away with Uub yet again abandoning his family.

Can't possibly imagine how that would make Chi-Chi feel.

Could be all why she was over protective.

Good of her to let Gohan go to a public school, gives him good interaction with the world

You know.. honestly I would bash Chi Chi in a way saying she's crazy and all but Pookie and Kblo has proved different to me to why Chi Chi is the way she is. I've always known she could be overprotective but I really see why now. She's been through a lot and really the poor woman needs a break sometimes.

I know any caring mother would do what she does maybe even worse. Like I said, yeah she could of calmed down in some moments but after this I really can't say she's crazy anymore. So I give it to you two.

When it comes to Gohan going to high school, it was about that time that Gohan met some "normal" kids and not ones with super powers. Gohan is not a fighter he's a boy that wants to go to school and learn so he can be a scholar. Him going to high school like any other kid is best for him. I give that one to Chi Chi too. Now why he didn't skip to college or whatever I can't answer that one.

I appreciate that Professor Gohan. Honestly, I just need to make a contemplation of videos showing how cool Chichi is. Well at least Super DBZ got Chichi's character the way she SHOULD have been if DBZ was more focused on other characters/women. ;)

I know it's a male dominated show, but it could never hurt to write a fanfic about Chichi's epicness. :p

Oh and just to show an actual image of her happy face in a poster.

I think we can agree that Erasa, Videl, and Sharpner proved Chi Chi right more or less as Gohan made 2 friends, 1 a boy and 1 a girl that was normal, as well as fell in love with a strong future wife. Top it off be got the reward of being the top student at the best high school in the world on his resume, which helped him become a scholar

I don't know about the manga, but I've watched the entire DBZ and DB anime several times and I can say without any bias that the character Chi-Chi in DBZ has demonstrated extreme obsession and anger on numerous occasions. Looking at her character in DBZ from a more real life perspective, I would say it's clear Chi-Chi wishes the best for her son, but she has some serious personal issues that need to be worked out! Peace

Chi-Chi's issues can be summoned up to one word Goku. Although he is my favorite character he is a terrible husband, terrible as in the naive kind of way. Sadly even Cegeta ended up being more of a family man than Goku

Why is high-school necessary for socializing?
Because there would definitely be other children there his own age. I said nothing about socializing in general.

Also, Chi Chi is an idiot.

EDIT: apparently I'm an idiot too. Can't even spell 'an' right.

Incorrect I'm afraid, it was Chi Chi's decision to get involved with Goku, we can't blame Goku for being himself.

I must have really hit a nerve with this thread.
(YA THINK, SM!?)
It's disappointing that you guys are not addressing my arguments as to why Chi Chi is insane, but rather trying to justify her actions.

The only way we can say Goku isn't a terrible dad or father is the "to death do us part" clause.

He was apparently really good those first 5 years to he died with Raditz, and then he was a bum who let everyone else be it Krillin, Bulma, Vegeta, and Piccolo take care of his son and his son Gohan take care of Chi Chi and Goten

ChiChi anger issues while justified is still worse than any other female characters...yes even more worse than 18. If you want prove look what she tried to do agains Buu.
How is it? All the female characters in the show had anger issues. Chichi was defending her son who had just died or who she had thought had just died. Anyone who had just lost a child would do that unless you are a coward.
Only Bulma, Chi-Chi, and Videl have anger issues.

If you think all the females have a bad temper then talk to Mrs. Briefs.

Kblo247

In fact in filler, Chi Chi outright says let's switch to Bulma, despite knowing Vegeta isn't naturally sweet, but admitting he is more than dependable

In the Japanese version, Chi-Chi was just teasing Bulma because she likes Goku. And also, I doubt Vegeta would make a better husband for Chi-Chi. In fact, he'd be far more of a pain than Goku.

Here you go, my Chichi-loving friend.

Also, Chi-Chi did have a right to expect Goku to make some adjustments in his lifestyle. Marriage is a commitment, and she herself gave up a lot just to be a good family man...errr I mean woman.
