filla my friend, filla. But Chi Chi likes romance. The flying and all that isn't important to her. She says she loves it when Goku drives her places, she's always been into that romantic stuff since she was a child.

When it comes to the studies over saving the world.. She knows damn well Goku is gonna take care of it somehow so there is no reason for Gohan to miss out on his studies. But she didn't know Gohan was the main plan in Goku's head to save the world though.

The dumbest thing about chi chi is that she prioritises gohan's studies over the fate of the world, overlooking the fact that if the earth is destroyed then so will all the schools, universities and gohan himself. And why does she insist on making goku drive when he can fly or teleport anywhere?
Well, Chi-Chi is somewhat of a simpleton. She's just being overprotective of Gohan like how most mothers are, and wants him to succeed in life. To her, the battles are simply things the Z-Senshi will take care of. She doesn't truly understand the circumstance at hand nor does she know of Gohan's vital importance on the battlefield (she's been totally left out). Goku's a grown man that's perfectly capable of handling him but most of the time, he either ends up badly injured... or dead, so these types of battles are certainly no place for a boy Gohan's age. She's just trying to be a good mother (although excessively so) and the reason she's so zealous over Gohan's studies is because she doesn't want him turning out as poorly educated as his father and she also wants him to be well-taken care of, especially since Goku was pretty much a bum. It's not that uncommen for parents to want to live their lives viraciously through their children (she wasn't educated either), especially the new and inexperienced.

Gaffer Tape a.k.a MistareFusion, from Kanzenshuu (formerly known as Daizenshuu EX) wrote a convincing analysation on Chi-Chi's character right here.

Also to answer that other question, Chi-Chi was pissed that Goku takes her for granted. She wanted him to drive her around like the neighbor does his wife, and wanted him to expand his knowledge beyond something other than training for once.

You have to remember that Goku doesn't fly Chi Chi anywhere, never did in any adaptation. Hell Goku didn't fly himself anywhere to he returned from Namek. Nimbus only obeyed the voice of Goku and then later Gohan, who told him to obey Goren, so she wasn't riding that either to get around. chi Chi was basically made to walk as an adult, so she made her husband learn to drive after yars of not being there for her and her son.

You have to remember that it was the lack of friends and unfamiliarity with the city that prompted Gohan to be sent to Satan City, he only knew Capsule Corp, the jungle, the mountains, Kame House, and the Look out.

It was the age groups that made Chi Chi want Gohan to interact with other teens. He was sent out there because his "bro" Krillin was older than Goku was supposed to be without dying and not aging. Piccolo was the closest one to his age and as a Namekian and Demon, he appeared much older than that actually. Bulma also was older than Chi Chi herself, and she was the only girl Gohan ever knew. Veegta is also the oldest of the bunch and bad influence. Gohan had limited interaction with Yamcha and even more limited with Tien so they shouldnt count as he was around Roshi more. Trunks and Goten are toddlers. Heck Gohan never meets Launch. He needed to be introduced to other kids for the first time in his life and in a setting where he would be forced to interact with them regularly, which a club doesn't mandate to pass or fail.

There was also the advancement that graduating form the top high school in their world would give him. Yeah a Capsule Corp internship or job looks great on the resume, as would simply calling himself Prince in reference to Ox King, but also speaks of nepotism and him being handed everything in some eyes. Graduating as the top student from the top high school in Datan Coty where Videl "the daughter of the worlds savior" attended was a huge notch on the checklist to becoming a scholar. It was a chess move by Chi Chi, who was far from a simpleton as she was the one who educated Gohan to the college level he was at.

If Videl could learn how to fly then surely Chi Chi could have too.

Also, insane does not mean 'lacking intelligence'. Chi Chi is a master of emotional manipulation (like many women tend to be, just being honest), quite a narcissist. She is extremely adverse to the notion of changing her behavior while expecting everyone else to adapt in order to suit her own ideals. Also unwilling to break the mold of social conventions even though she could hardly be considered normal as a child. I have no clue how she ended up like that since her upbringing is never really explored.

Even Goku isn't stupid enough to teach her how to control her Ki. That frying pan would make them all her ***** then if she could amplify the swing and fly after them

And maybe she just wanted more for Gohan as she didn't get normal friends or interaction herself growing up. It's like Trunks being pushed to head of Capsule Corp when Bulma never took the role truly

That is an aspect of her insanity: she's a distraught individual who is incapable of a mutual, peaceful, healthy relationship.

Well when your husband doesn't try to make any money, doesn't try to educate your child, and tends to disappear for what, 9 years (including yardrat) leaving you as a single mother with another child on the way you tend to get a tad pissed off. Hell when your husband thinks marriage is a type of food it has to be hard to keep your patience

Chi Chi had it easier it seemed emotionally with Gohan as the man of the house and even had regular interaction with Bulma to boot, as they didn't interact with others when Goku wasn't around because he simply didn't care to or got lost being Goku

She was perfectly aware of Goku's wayward, adventurous, risk-taking nature before deciding to persue him. She could have easily chosen a more stable partner if that is what she wanted. It was her own fault.

How would she be aware? She knew he was a hero and that he was on a DB journey with Bulma sure, but other than that she assumed he was training with the turtle hermit as a martial artist. She wasn't exposed to Goku as long as Bulma for instance was to Vegeta nor does she have the database 18 had at her disposal to know so much about Krillin because of Gero stalking them.

What she had to go on was that Goku was a reasonably responsible husband at the least Gohans first 4 years. Then he died for a year without telling her himself, despite having King Kaimto talk thru. Then he chose to stay in space despite having a chance to be with his family. Then he did 3 years of training. Then he chose to stay dead for 7 more years and never even talked to her to say goodbye once again, nor did he watch down on them to know she was having another kid. Then he spent 10 years with them and flew off again without even warning her beforehand despite being able to teleport and not needing to leave for 5 years in which he never checked on his family or friends

Even if she wasn't aware beforehand, she still didn't bother to get to know the Goku before confusing him into marrying her. Totally insane.

EDIT: ^exactly

It isn't like she thought she confused Goku into marrying her. She thought he knew what it meant until after they actually fought and found out he didn't, and Goku then willingly said he wanted to be with her for to form a family

It says something when Vegeta can grow up to be a more responsible husband, father after not even being raised by a loving family and having a stable home. Goku had friends, family, love, and would walk away happily for any journey. Vegeta stayed with Bulma, fought being settled down after Trunks was born, then after the Cell Games was there 7 straight years as a father, came back post Buu admitting that he loved Bulma and Trunks, and then had a daughter who adored him and he treated like a princess on throughout GT to the point he had willingly got a drivers license and shopped to make her happy. What does it say when Vegeta is the more responsible grown up?

'To grow up' is to recognise the responsibilities in life are not dictated by the whims of authority or some abstract ideal, but rather the choices you make. Vegeta chose to have a child with Bulma, yet Goku complied because he felt it would make Chi Chi happy, and that's what Goku does, he wants to make people feel happy. Of course, they're still both responsible for the wellbring of the resulting children regardless of any ignorance on the part of Goku, but Chi Chi definitely took advantage of him and that's pretty reprehensible.

There are so many misconceptions in this topic already about Chichi that it is ridiculous. I cannot stand and sit to see my favorite character be accused of this insanity. So yeah this may be bias, but I have good reasons to back up what I am going to say. The fact that fans wanted Goku to stay around all the time is the reason why Gohan turned out to be the way he was. If you want to blame anyone, blame the fans. First off, if Goku had died like he did in the original timeline, Gohan would have turned out like the one in Future Trunks' timeline. So no Chichi was not the blame for Gohan studying. He continued fighting when Goku died in the Trunks era.

Also, as history shows in dbz, the women/some men (like krillin) too did not fight after having children. It made no sense as to why, chichi being a fighter herself, thought martial arts was a waste. They did that to make sure the focus was on Goku...just Goku. Gohan was SUPPOSED to be the main character of the DBZ series, but once again FANS, were the blame to that.

Why do you think Goten was made to look like Goku? Well there is you reason. Toriyama wanted to go into a different direction. The fact that Chichi trained Goten should have been how it was with Gohan. They just wanted to pinpoint a way to excuse Gohan for not being as great as his father when in fact he should have been better.

I understand that some of you think of her as "insane." There are filler episodes if this is what we are going by, where Chichi actually says "she is proud of gohan for fighting." I can point it out to you. Whether or not it is filler everything I said above applies.

DBZ was for Gohan, but fans made it for Goku.

If Chichi was really that keen on studying, she would have put it right on Goten as well. Her training Goten was not filler.

Edit: As far as Chichi tricking Goku into marriage, they have a bigger history together than most people realize. Yes, Bulma did spend a big portion of her time with Goku. Most of the time she was quick to ridicule him or even try to leave him behind if a situation got too dangerous. Chichi, when Goku was fighting Piccolo, was ready to step in and defend him. It takes a lot of GUTS to do that. However, if Chichi YELLS or SCREAMS, she is automatically seen as an enemy. Why is that? She isn't allowed to be hurt when her husband died that she had no idea died, and her son was taken in by a man who tried to kill her husband? I mean that is just ridiculous to me.

Chichi accepted Goku right away even if he was rude with no manners or anything. Goku did not have to accept marrying her. He could have said no. He has big boy pants on doesn't he? He accepted so don't put the excuse on that he was just "trying to be nice."

Also, they didn't go in depth with Ox King or Grandpa Gohan's relationship. I'm pretty sure Grandpa Gohan and Ox King did communicate or meet each other one time before they parted their ways. They were both trained under Master Roshi just like Goku and Krillin.

Even if Goku didn't love her when they first got married, they had more in common than people tend to overlook because Chichi in the beginning of DBZ is overbearing and always yelling which again is to keep Goku looking as almighty and perfect because he is the MAIN character.
