If Cell is able to fully regenerate from a single cell then that would mean each of his cells has a mind of its own and should be stuck in a constant flux of asexual reproduction. Edited by Spirit Metaphor, Sep 1 2012, 04:13 PM.

I remember when my brother deleted my banjo kazooei file when I was literally about to face the witch boss. Same reaction. |

nope. because dbz creatures have souls, he only has 1 consciousness, no matter how many cells survive. |

Cells cells aren't necessarily the same as the ones we know about. Heck, the guy could supposedly blow up the entire solar system, that's already majorly different that anything we would know about. Maybe its based of a 'Hive Mind' system. |

This entire discussion comes from an incorrect Funimation Dub line. In the original and the english Kai versions, Cell says that the nucleus of his regeneration is in his head and he will always survive as long as that is unharmed. He says nothing of each Cell having a life of its own. That came from the original Funimation Dub, which is, of course, vastly inaccurate. |

If it's only one particular Cell that can regenerate the rest of the body, that makes a lot more sense. Perhaps that explosion technique Cell used is designed to shield the regeneration nucleus in his head. That still doesn't explain how he was able to regenerate after Goku's instant transmission kamehameha since his head was blown clean off and the regeneration occurred from the remainder of his body. I'm also curious as to whether Cell's passage into Otherworld was actually canon, I have not read the manga. It just bothers me that Dr. Gero is able to create a new soul using science. Consciousness is depicted as both scientific and supernatural Then again, time travel is depicted as scientific when there's absolutely nothing scientific about it (it's impossible).I don't have any problem with Buu because the explanation is explicitly magical from the beginning. Goku's teleporting Kamehameha against Cell is a well-known plot-hole. Toriyama was just thinking about making a cool fight and forgot about the nature of Cell's regeneration. Personally I just pretend Cell was able to move his nucleus to his stomach just before Goku hit him. |

That's a bit like Elder Toguro from Yu Yu Hakusho, shifting the location of vital organs.

@IT kamehameha. the only possible explanation is if cell was referring to namekian regeneration, without knowing how the rest of his heritage affected his biology. since Icers appear to have a very durable biology, possibly having redundant organs, it is likely that cell has more than one core, and the shock of having his head blown off made him miss the fact that he regenerated without his head. @souls. since souls aren't well defined even in real world religion, it is possible that all sentient minds, regardless of structure or origin, have souls. the idea that only humans have souls, or more generally, that only naturally conceived/born organic creatures have souls, is simply bias on our part. @time travel. not impossible, just impractical. the amount of energy that would be required to send anything backwards in time is greater than the amount of energy in this universe. now, if there are multiple universes, then time travel is possible, since we could simply consume another universe to travel back in time in this one. however, dragonball "time travel" is actually travel between parallel universes, which are commonly referred to as timelines. |
