I think the Cell saga , they should've shown Gohan the strongest warrior and Goku in heaven with peace.

Indeed.

But think about it, if it ended at the Cell Saga, we wouldn't know what SSJ3 or Fusion was, thus we wouldn't be missing it.

Haha, yeah you got that right! This forum would be nothing without the buu saga, I mean seriously, almost half of the topics here revolves around the buu saga!

I believe the best ending is what it is. The Cell saga : the end of a hero, Buu saga : the rise of a new age.

To me,Frieza Saga looks like the natural ending to the series.I don't know if AT wanted to end it there. Also,i'm not saying that i'd like DB to have
ended at that point. On the contrary,as a huge DB fan,i wouldn't.But,technically speaking,it was the best moment for it to end.It was the drama's peak.

-Piccolo gets killed by Frieza's beam,so no more dragonballs. This is the perfect ending for a series revolved around them, and also has the moral of
people having to rely on their own powers from there on.
-Z Fighters remain dead,so that all those intense and emotional scenes in Saiyans Saga have some meaning.
-Vegeta remains dead,so that his death speech has some meaning. Also,it was unnatural how,in Cell/Buu Sagas,he was turned from a psychotic
killer to a nice guy with a normal family life.
-Goku dies in Namek's explosion.Having saved the universe from Frieza and become the greatest hero of all times,he has fulfilled his own purpose in
life and deserves to spend the rest of eternity in heaven. Also, the super saiyan thing remains what it was originally meant to be.An invincible warrior
that appears once per millenium.
-History repeats itself in a sadistic, but also amusing way.Vegeta said that the Original Super Saiyan was destroyed, along with the planet he was on,
because of his own power. That is what also happens on Namek.Of course, technically,it wasn't Goku the one who destroyed the planet, but it was
his power that made Frieza use that last resort.
-It is the end of a cohesive story. The story of the life of a Saiyan that was raised on Earth, ignoring his ascension, received the glory he deserved and,
finally, died a heroic death.Up to that point, all Sagas were related to each other. Each one was built on the previous ones.But,Cell/Buu Sagas looked
like they came out of nowhere.
-Frieza remains what he was meant to be.The absolute evil force.
-Lastly,and most importantly,it leaves better circumstances for a possible sequel.Gohan,a child with virtually limitless fighting potential,is the only Z
Fighter left alive and the new Earth's protector.

Lol

Finally, another chap that felt the series ending as how it ended as great as much as I do!

Frieza or even Cell Saga ending could've been devastating.

The former was 20 filler episode fight & ending with that would've been a disaster. The latter was boring one-sided beat down ny a cocky brat which resulted in the death of his own Dad. A fitting ending. Just like Miz, really, REALLY?

Fast forward 10 years ahead, with 28th Budoukai, plus inclusion of new character Uub & an epic fight (greatly underrated) which defined the series over the years, while staying true to Goku's character, Toriyama nailed it right!
Lol, that is so biased.

For me, the series ending where it ended was best.
Firstly, because there are a lot of people who liked the sagas that we would be missing out on if not. (though, I'm personally not a big Buu Saga fan)
Secondly, the reason the series went on as long as it did was because it was so popular. There would have been no reason for Toriyama to stop.

That being said, I would have personally liked the Cell Saga as the ending. (Most dramatic IMO)
There was just no plausible reason to stop there.

I'll always say that it should have ended at the Cell Games, but I'm glad that the Buu saga happend, so we have more of Bruce Faulconer's epic music.

I could have been happy with it ending at Cell Saga, but if it did we wouldn't get to see some real character development for Vegeta. Plus during the other sagas we never really got to see the Z-warriors surviving in the general public, like when Gohan goes to school (love it).

I like the end of the manga, so I say Buu saga.
Vegeta is a character more interesting in the Buu saga than in the Cell saga, his death is one of the best scenes in Dragon Ball. I like other characters too, like Gohan/Great Saiyaman (very funny XD), Videl, Chibi Trunks, Goten, and Hercule's importance.
I love fusions - both Vegeth and Gotenks - and the new Tenkaichi.
So don't touch Buu saga please. XD

If anything, the "end of a hero" end fits with the Frieza Saga far better than it did with the Cell Saga. I mean, this hero whose life just ended all symbolically gives his friends a call from the afterlife....I know it's DBZ, but that ain't so symbolic in my books....Frieza Saga's ending was honestly much more dramatic and, in a sense, saddening in comparison to Cell.

Afterwards, it could show little scenes of the gang trying to revive Goku, Porunga claiming that their hero wishes not to return (no need for Goku to call up himself), and some future ending style scenes showing how Gohan grew up and how he either overcame Vegeta or how Vegeta settled down and started a peaceful life....

In terms of how far the series should've gone, it should've gone beyond the Buu Saga, but the whole EoZ thing should've been kept (minus Uub, TBH). But the best ending, just barely (just ahead of the actual ending) could've been the Frieza Saga's ending, hands down IMO.
