Actually even if you are unconscious you're body would try and remove the pillow. Crazy fluid body spasms will do that.

Naturally, as humans, we fear what we can't explain. This is proven throughout history and even in modern day. Ancient civilizations did not understand what the sun was or where it came from, therefore they created a God as an explanation. Today people follow religions because of things they don't understand, but that's another argument. The point is we will probably never understand what happens after death, or if there is anything to understand.

Anyway, no, I do not fear death, but I strongly fear what comes after. I fear it so much that when my mind drifts and I start to think about it I get cold chills. I try to think about something else because it just drives me insane.

I have to admit, nothingness doesn't really scare me either. I mean it will suck, I like living a lot. It's fun, you meet people, life is good, it can be pretty damn sucky but generally speaking it's funtimes.

Nothingness though...no I don't fear that, it's just nothingness. You won't be there to experience it, you'll be dead. I'm not sure how to find that scary, oblivion is just that you can't feel it and it's not like you're sitting there experiencing your nothingness. You are gone, you are dead and you experience nothing...I don't think that's scary, just unfortunate.

I'm not really afraid of nothingness. That would be one of the most ideal scenarios in my opinion. I'm afraid of not knowing what the scenario will be. Is there heaven, hell, limbo, reincarnation, nothing? The idea of heaven actually scares me, even if it is total paradise, whatever. I can't imagine being stuck anywhere for eternity, I think I would go insane being stuck in existence.

I think if there is a "Heaven", it will most likely be like a rest stop, chill for a couple years and go back down to Earth as a new born, and around goes the cycle of life...

That for me would be awesome.

I don't fear my death as much as I fear the death of people I love. I just hope that I'll get to see them again one day.

I think the simple answer to the OP's question regarding the pillow is: it hurts.

Death or no death, you have a natural aversion to pain, even if you want it still won't "feel good".

I have that fear sometimes. The unkown of it all. It usually always occurs when things in life are going great and you want to be sure it just won't end all of a sudden without warning. You just can't really worry or think too much about something you have no choice in the matter. I say do as you wish now and when you are confronted with the matter deal with it accordingly

Pretty much reincarnation with a twist. All though in most reincarnation tales the idea is to NOT be reincarnated and break the cycle and reach bliss.

Same here. I don't think I've been hit harder by the thoughts of other people dying then my own. The difference being that once you are dead you aren't around to witness the aftermath. While when someone close to you dies it's hell and you just have to bear it all.

Excellent post I agree all the way. To survive is in grained in our very nature. It's the whole reason evolution happens and will continue to happen. I don't know what we're marching towards or if you are at all but it's pretty amazing thing to know that we are living and have been for more than thousands of years.

I fear death because there's nothing left once we die, but to be honest i wouldn't want to spend time worrying about this issue when you can be out doing other things and take your mind of it.

The idea / theory of being reborn i wouldn't like, especially losing the memory of your previous. I'd hate to forget about the ones i love now.

Surely it's better than ceasing to exist at all?

Though one could argue that being reborn into another life and not remembering any of your past life would be, in a technical sense, ceasing to be who you are now completely.

it's not death we fear, it's everything that happens right before death comes as you see it coming.

I don't fear death really. Even if I wasn't a Christian, which I am, I'd be like "eh...it'll happen eventually."
