It wouldn't hurt to have something like that. I think the only real harm in it is, if people take it as a joke and just neg-rep people all the time for no apparent reason and then it becomes all screwy. A trial run would be necessary of course so, you might as well do it. Could be cool. |

It's not a bad idea but I don't think it's necessary, I mean you can easily just go to someone's post, I think anyone can determine who's who around here just by looking at how a person post. |

It could be used immaturely and for the benefit of trolls or people who dislike each other. To be honest, it has its flaws and having a good "rep" wouldn't automatically equal a good poster, if you know what I mean. It could more or less become a popularity contest of sorts. |

In case you guys didn't know, most people here are kids that love DBZ. Don't expect a rep system to be taken seriously and be filled with "good" reasons. If anything it's something to have fun with. My worry is that if some kid randomly gives Rogue a -1 hell might break loose. |

there is no argument to counter this. rep is used on other sites i use, but its for extreme reasons, and only the people with a good amount of rep can give or take rep from you. Like i f i had 100 points of rep right? some troll makes a new account so he can spam rep points... the only way to stop that is to take that kind of power away by making that new account have NO rep. On my car site i have over 6thousand rep points, that means that i can GIVE 6 rep points or take them whenever i give bad or good rep. No newbie should be able to manipulate that kind of system. and for the people with high rep? they only rep each other ONCE a topic, and once a week in other circumstances, so that people with high levels cant spam each other either. so even though there is no argument for what he said? there is a solution, and a good one. Actually bluesummer, MOST of the people here are over the age of 18 let alone 20. i can name literally only a few actual kids that post continuously. so in reality the only way that system can be beat is with a wide conspiracy of members giving people bad rep. and then it can be done only once. So if it happens that you piss a whole bunch of people off? you get bad rep. But only if you really cross the line does that happen. suspension and banishment also. One more thing, if you dont post? you dont get rep either. my other site gives out one free rep point for every year you are on the site and making contributions. You dont post? you dont get it. Ive seen guys who were members for years, and have virtually NO posts, no posts? no rep. There are systems implemented that can take advantage of a trolls need to be a troll. received neg rep from a troll once? his "red" dot was made a sort of faded mauve color, he had no rep. its just thats easy. But then you have the high rep guys, guys that can take like 25-50 points at a time. I find myself sometimes forgetting i even repped someone? like what they said in another topic right? try to rep them? and i have to wait. The message? you just gave rep to this person, (positive or negative) spread some around before coming back. it keeps things in perspective. Edited by Paikuan extreme, Jul 23 2012, 06:27 PM.

The abusing of the system is obviously the biggest issue that all of us are having. Could there be like a limit to how many neg/pos reps someone can give a day or a certain allotted time? There has to be some way that we can make this work. |

that could easily be handled by regulating the rep process in general. Say that someone can only give 5 reps a day. even with seniority that should NOT increase as it really should be something good that you get repped over, like starting a really good topic, or saying something everyone understands in a serious one. giving re pgood or bad can be for any reason really, but its also private. meaning that no one else in the thread knows you did it, unless you announce it, like ...yup rep for you, or rep +1 or however you choose to phrase it, as most people only rep because they actually AGREE with whats been said and not just paying lip service. On my car site the only time you know someone has given you rep is when you see it on ur personal page. it keeps track of who neg repped you and who didnt. so the repping ALSO isnt anonymous to the repped. which also maintains perspective. i can explain it all day, i take using rep serious. and like explained in two posts up. if you have high rep you can really affect someone level as opposed to someone who has NO rep. so the system is regulated by not being allowed to either: rep the same person more than once on the same topic rep the same person for more than a week or two depending also on the section. we could make it so that only the best of each category has a sort of recognition star for people as an actual contributor to the site. example ninjajp247* DBZ debater and contributor Darth pyrus * top DBZ debater and contributor Kblo * DBZ analyst or top analyst it goes on and on, i just chose a few random names from the top so dont take it personal. Even me. Its giving well presence a meaning as well as seniority. You also dont deserve rep if you dont post, so that guarantees newbies and slam/troll accounts dont get abused for rep addition. I don't think the Zetaboard rep system could be regulated in that way Ninja. It's most likely would take some coding from someone willing and knowing to do it. I don't think DBZF "needs" a rep system but if everyone wants it than give the people what they want. |
