Well, I would certainly welcome it. I have no objections to the idea. It would help in identifying the reputation of every user.

Problem is it could be abused by trolls. Someone could just make new accounts and bash someone they dont like with bad rep.

We've had them in the past but when ZB updates, the code goes out of date and there aren't that many good ones for ZB that I have found, if someone finds a good one, I'll look into it.

I don't see the point though when we have likes and dislikes. The rep system would eventually become a joke.

Not really, likes/dislikes mean nothing. Where as your rep would show new members if you are someone to respect on the forums or if youre just another troll.

I'd welcome it although I can see the comments becoming really negative if people don't like one another.

I was a member of MFG where they used the rep system. It wasn't used for its intended purpose. People (including me) repwhored like crazy, regardless of the quality of our posts. People neg-repped for the hell of it. I doubt we'd have such a huge problem with it as MFG did, but I still don't think it'd do us much good here.

The only purpose I can see is further establishing that someone is a troll. If you see someone with negative rep up the butt, you'll probably assume he's not a good poster. This would deter people from posting in threads just to say the person is a troll, which is spam as far as I understand the rules.

Otherwise, it seems like a generally meaningless add-on. Most of us here are well-respected members, so we'd all most likely have positive rep. The amount of positive rep you have doesn't necessarily mean you're a better poster than someone else who has positive rep, though.

Oh, and there's the problem of posting offensive comments in the rep.

Valid points, I could see it going wrong when new members join and someone doesnt agree with them.

I may not deserve to live, but I will protect those in my reach with my reverse blade!

The problem with a rep system is that people believe there has to an opposition with +1 and -1.

Have you ever wondered why the most successful networking site on the planet (Facebook) only has a +1 feature? It's because the thing that's abused 90% of the time is the -1 rep.

I'm all for it if there is only a +1 feature. Not too many forums I've ever visited could handle the -1, and those members are aged between 20-30, whereas here the target audience is middle and high school kids. Translation it wouldn't work with a -1. People would get mad, leave, and then it would be disabled.

It is possible to get/create a code with out the -1 but it's difficult.

Gibberish java-script to most people:

Of course this is "copyright" even though I seriously doubt it's original, so we would have to move the page elsewhere in case he moved the hosted spot.

Code:

<script>
//Where do you want the buttons 1=by the Quote button, 2=by the PM/Email buttons, 3=by the Go To Top button
positionOfImages=1;

//The Buttons are what you click to like/dislike a post, the Icons are what are shown next to the users who like/dislike a post
likeImageButtonURL="http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/5434/likebutton.gif";
likeImageIconURL="http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/7645/thumbsupgreenr.gif";
dislikeImageButtonURL="http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/7509/dislikebutton.gif";
dislikeImageIconURL="http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/9333/thumbsdownrede.gif";

//Set to true if you want to disable Liking
disableLike=false;

//Set to true if you want to disable Disliking
disableDislike=false;

//If you want to change the word 'Like' to something else, edit these strings.
likeText=["Like","Likes","like this","likes this","Unlike"];

//If you want to change the word 'Dislike' to something else, edit these strings.
dislikeText=["Dislike","Dislikes","dislike this","dislikes this","Undislike"];
</script>
<script src="http://ifzblike.appspot.com/static/iflike.js"></script>

^Explaining that we can and how to remove the "dislike" feature (bulk of code in upper part). The problem as always is that these things all break when Zeta upgrades, it's the problem with home-made codes that will never change. So if we implement one Tim and Rogue would have to realize they're going to be trying to fix a code they didn't create their selves every now and then to coincide with the host of the site.

All this in one sentence: If we do there doesn't need to be a "dislike" feature, and admins have to understand it'll probably break and will have to be disabled.

Edit: The one Ani's has can disable the -1 too a lot simpler so if we do it, we'd need to go with his example.

Well thanks guys there could be a huge downside to the rep thing but i still think that we all have the basic moral well some of us do but none of us are saints xD so thank you all but something like it could be good if you think about it.

FishingTheSky makes a great point. We have mature members, that's for sure, but there are people who will see a negative rep and take it the wrong way (is there a right way to take it?). This could lead to confrontations and "rep wars." But who knows.

I love rep wars! lol

No, but I see a lot of good points. I would like to see a rep system myself. And I would think that we're all mature enough to use it properly, but there's always that chance of somebody spamming neg rep for no reason.

If it's made sure that people put their reason for neg/positive repping in and are respectful about it, then nobody should get offended.

Personally I don't see the point of a rep system though. Members should just judge each other based on their own interactions with each other, not with what other people thought in the past. I don't want to see anyone *walking* around the forum with a chip on their shoulder. Also I can see people deciding that once they have lots of rep they're going to stop posting, basically like people going elite and not posting as much any more.
