On the morning of July 6, Sailor Moon fans who tuned into Japan’s premier video sharing site, Nico Nico, for the 20th-anniversary talk featuring pop band Momoiro Clover Z, were pleasantly surprised with the news that Takeuchi and Kodanshi Comics already have a new series in the works.

Kodanshi editor Fumio Osano confirmed that the new project will not be a film, but a serialized anime. They have yet to release any details beyond its existence, its format and its debut timeframe, but longtime fans of the series speculate that this new anime will be a reboot geared to both young, potential-moonies and older fans.

The presence of Kotono Mitsuishi (voice actor of Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon) and Toru Furuya (voice actor of Mamoru Chiba/Tuxedo Mask) at the anniversary event has certainly raised some eyebrows. Will they reprise their roles in the upcoming series? The voice actor cast remains to be seen, but what we do know is that Momoiro Clover Z will provide the show’s theme song. Toei animation will produce it, and it will be distributed worldwide after it runs its course in Japan.

What we know is it's going to be a SERIES, not some revenue wanting movie or ova. Still going to be interesting to see if it's a reboot though or a new storyline completely. Starts in summer of '13 also.

I can't help but just say this is great for anime. So many people get stuck on new shounen series like Naruto etc which is fine because it can lead people to expand their anime viewing like db/z did for a lot of us here. I'm excited and we'll use this topic for updates!

You know I can't leave without saying, "In the name of the moon, I will punish you!"

This is so random and so awesome! Omg, I remember watching Sailor Moon as a kid and loving it. That was when I was very, very young 'cause I also remember rewatching it a few years later (probably when I was around 12~13) and finding it pretty boring.

But anyway, exciting news!

Going to have to admit I am excited for this because it was the first of two anime I was exposed to that got me into the world of anime. Dragonball was the second one.

I've never been able to really watch the series as closely as I did DBZ when it was on Cartoon Network but I'll make up for that. May as well watch it online while I have the chance.
