Awesome premier if a a little slow at times but used to that.
I like the time skip it's cool to see the change and everything...but I'd like to see how they got that gate up, Gov's goons smashed the fence so how did they fend the walkers off long enough to set that up? That would be a fairly major task...
Spoiler: click to toggle I concur with this new virus coming around, it's probably something treatable but they're going to have to find out what it is and find the treatment for it fast since obviously everyone is going to have bathed or drank the water.
Though I'm not sure about the kid at the end unless it's one of those things that make you bleed from every orifice why was there blood in his footsteps?
Seems that black guy is going to go all we know about him is that he must have been an alcoholic and was a medic in the army, not a major character loss but it's going to be major losing a medic for the group.
Losing Daryl would make the series significantly less awesome...
I think a major character is going to die soon though, possibly Hershel, this season is going to test Rick even more and the most awful way of doing that would be to take away his support, Hershel is his main source of advice and counselling and obviously Carl and Judith won't die.

Pretty good premiere. Spoiler: click to toggle I think the virus is in the water. There's a trailer going around here where Hershel says (among a bunch of other things) "If you take a drink of water, you risk your life." Given that one of the opening shots was Rick splashing water on his face and they focused on the water coming out of the shower head at the end, my guess is that's what I causing it. Definitely some kind of sickness though, because the kid did say he was ill earlier on.
Gah, that thing with the woman Rick found was kind of obvious though, as soon as she said she had an off-screen husband I could tell they were going for the contrast. It wasn't terrible but yeah....
Also can someone explain to me why Rick doesn't want to carry a gun all of a sudden? Is it because he doesn't want to encourage Carl or something? Not quite getting it. Also I noticed that one of the zombies had no eyes and that kid was bleeding out of his eyes at the end, so this is obviously something brought in to the prison from the outside.
Spoiler: click to toggle The fact that her husband's name was "Eddie" kind of tipped me off to what he actually was well before we actually learned that he was head in a bag.
I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but the band Iron Maiden named their mascot "Eddie" because he was an animal skull that the band had found back in their early days. The reason why he's named Eddie was because he was a 'ead. Get it?
The fact that the crazy lady sounded Irish or something kind of tipped me off to that. I'm not sure if this was intentional or not because it wasn't mentioned in Talking Dead. I guess I'll just have to wait for the DVD season release to find out in the commentary.

I would be very big though.
Hoping neither Glen nor Maggie die that would be a shame.
Can kind of see the reasoning but I don't get why Rick would be against kids learning about knives and stuff, should that be his decision really?
God forbid the situation ever arose where my child was faced with a zombie alone but I know I'd damn well want them to have some clue about how to defend themselves.
Also Carl is more annoying than ever, not sure how that's possible.
Hopefully he won't tell Rick about the lessons, wouldn't surprise me if he did though.

Spoiler: click to toggle Nah I get it with Rick and the kids. He really wants them to grow up "normal" I guess, especially when he has a baby of his own. He's slowly been losing his humanity with each passing season, but there's something admirable that he'd still feel strongly about something like that. Unfortunately with Carl on his way to becoming a f***ing psycho and it looking like they'll have to leave the prison at some point this season, that'll probably be eroded too.

Well that was tense and unexpected.
Spoiler: click to toggle I thought this sickness was going to be dragged out over at least 3 episodes until they realized but they worked it out right away, it's still a huge threat but not as much.
I wonder who this saboteur is, someone from Woodbury? They could easily have blended in with a sinister agenda.
It's nice to know the groups of walkers were drawn in, meaning once the culprit is dealt with the prsion can be as safe as it was once again.
f***ing knew Carl will tell Rick about the knives, sure Rick agreed to it but what an a***** Carl is that could have set Rick off.
It's unlikely but I really really hope he dies this season.
Could be nothing but Michonne seemed sensitive to sound..., I wonder if she could be sick that would suck. She's already injured so that cuts their fighting power down a lot.
On that though, how did she even get hurt? And why didn't she use her sword and take out those walkers? That was really stupid and forced, it's either for development purposes or a lead up to her death.
Those poor pigs...

I believe I heard it mentioned that one of the focuses of this season and upcoming seasons will be the kids and their desensitization to the violence around them, which would make sense as a theme and seems to be working itself out already. We're going to see more development in the kids, and it's going to be cray.
I'm not sure who the person is who's feeding the walkers, but I don't think it's Lizzie like some people seem to think. I can see her doing that, and the figure was too tall to be Lizzie. I doubt it's someone from Woodbury though. Don't know why. I guess it could be a lesser known character in their group.

I hate him because he makes such stupid decisions and says equally stupid things and still acts like he's some kind of big shot.
Yes he has grown up a lot throughout the series but come on over a year in that world and this is as far as he's got? He had to kill his own mother and he's barely changed just more interested in killing walkers, no life changing epiphany.
Wanting Rick to trust him with a gun is fine but he seems to put no thought in to why.
That whole scene was stupid but with Michonne and the gate...really? Couldn't have waited a bit I mean they were right there. That was a huge failure in both characters' intelligence there as well as writing.
To put it in one sentence the reason I hate Carl, either man up and stop acting like a child or act your age and stop thinking you're a hard a***.

I also don't hate Carl, and with all the death that he's seen around him in addition to him being the one to "kill" his mom, can you honestly blame him for being the way he is? Another thing that's been hinted in this season is a possible (dare I say it) "Richonne" romance, in addition to learning more about Michonne's past. If her back story is anything like it is in the comic series, then her reaction to Judith in the most recent episode makes sense: Michonne's past in the comic series In the comic series, Michonne had two daughters prior to the Zombie outbreak who ended up dying. And her kids' dad ended up being one of her "pets" when she's introduced in the series. There's also a rumor that Daryl will die this season, as Norman Reedus wants to do other things with his career. It would suck, but it's understandable if it's true. |

Well if it means anything to you, both Daryl and Merle are original characters to the TV series, and didn't originate from the comic series like all the other major characters.
I like Daryl, but as you've said, I also don't think he's holding up the series either. He also wasn't supposed to last long originally, but after he first appeared, the audience loved him, so they decided to keep him in and he eventually developed into a major character.
In all honesty, I've never actually read the comics either, but I have read about what makes the TV series different from the comic series.

I think it would suck if he died because he's like the saviour character, he's always there to take out a ton of zombies in seconds and help somebody you don't want to die.
Think this sickness is going to be water based as theorized? The next two episodes are called Isolation and Indifference. Perhaps they caught a break, obviously the sickness is still out there anyway.
There was the preview of Hershel saying something about water but in this one he says every time you take a breath you take a risk, it's probably just a metaphor.

Well they don't know how the disease spreads, so if it's airborne then they are taking a risk.
As for Carl, urgh. I don't know if it's just left over hate from Season 2 where he was genuinely the most annoying character I've seen on TV in a long a*** time, but every time I see him on screen he annoys the f*** out of me. Plus his whole "look at me I'm a big boy" routine is getting really old. Hopefully they follow through with the hints that he's a bit of a psychopath, then he'd actually be interesting.

I doubt it is, the younger kids, especially Judith and old people would all be dead by now and the people with medical backgrounds weren't as concerned as they'd need to be for an airborne disease that they have no way to combat.
They were pretty business as usual about it not frantic about how they were all going to die.
It's probably only airborne in that it can be transmitted through coughing or sneezing.
Presumably if it spreads out they're going to have to hunt for anti-biotics in hospitals etc...wonder who they could run in to as they'd be highly valued locations.

I was thinking maybe the black medic guy, since he was on his own before so he said, who knows who he could have been affiliated with.
