And I came out with this:![]() Although that was my second attempt at a sig. This was my first for anyone who cares: Spoiler: click to toggle As you can probably tell, I used different tutorials for each. |

Awesome! I'm glad you are trying out tutorials. Are you using the ones I posted? The first one is pretty good. You got all the basics down of placement of the render and right size. It's hard to get that right on the first try. Some things you should work on -try blending the background more with the render like using black or red -the text should not be so distracting to take away from the focal point which is the render -I think in this case the border is too thick Woooow the 2nd signature is so much better. I love what you did with the background. Are these your first?????If you improved that much with your second one, wow oh wow you are going to be a star in graphics. One thing I don't like -I'm not sure if it was the render kid buu you chose, but it is too bright. Other then that, the 1st one you made that is our 2nd signature is super. Good work. Keep using tutorials and you'll get better. Edited by Pookie, Jul 4 2012, 02:16 PM.

For one of them I did, for the second one I used a youtube video as I wanted to actually see how everything was done lol, I didn't know a lot of features in Gimp so I couldn't exactly find everything a written tutorial said.
Yeah I should try that next time.
I really had no idea what to do with text. I literally just picked a font and colour and put it there, no effects at all, but I also didn't wanna leave the text out altogether. How would you suggest making the text less distracting?
You should have seen the first border I tried but yeah I'll try to keep them smaller from now on.
Mostly, I downloaded Gimp back in 2010 as I wanted to try this out, but I never got anywhere with it. I was too stupid to look up tutorials and stuff and I just kept messing with the effects lol, most of which I had forgot by now.
Thanks xD But I doubt that, it's probably more to do with the tutorials I was following.
Yeah I agree. Thanks for the feedback! I may try another one later or I may not, I'm inconsistent in what I like doing xP

I'm no good with text, but what I was always told is that you should always make the text flow with the signature. You want someone to look at your signature and be able to follow it easily. As for the colors, I like to use white in most texts because it goes with everything. However, if you want to mix it up, using colors from the render is where I'd start with. There is also a site you can use to download fonts. I usually get too lazy to do it myself, but I really should. http://www.dafont.com/ The tutorials will give you tools to make signatures of your own. The more styles you learn the better it is. When you make a signature from scratch, you'll remember those tutorials that you did and come up with ideas on how to make the signature turn out better. It's what I need to do with myself. Sometimes you get bored of the same thing so trying out new things helps. Choosing a render is hard at times. You want to look for a render that is big and can be re-sized easily. You also want one that can fit in the space pretty good. I usually like renders that look like their moving because they are easier to get ideas for. You can tell the difference between high quality and low quality right away. Let me show you an example. Bad Quality ![]() Why? You can see that the face of shy guy has lines and it just doesn't look all that great. Good Quality ![]() You see how nice it is to look at ? It should be bigger, but it's so clean. You can't see pixels or anything like that. Although, even on that one, you can see that there are some parts that weren't erased as good like the piece of hair that is sticking out of Goku's head. Really nice attempts here. The first signature came out pretty good, the basics for the effects are good but the render doesn't blend in that well. We all have problems with this sometimes, for me, as Pookie and many others tell me I blend the render too much with the background, but they still come out nice. However, you usually want the render to be the focal point of course. The text isn't that great but everyone has issues with that so that is something that people slowly improve on. The second signature is much better, the background looks really awesome and the pixelize effect is really awesome. Only problem is the render is low quality. If it was a high quality image and the pixelize was just a bit less opacity it wouldve been much better, IMO. Nice work though! |

Just wanna point out that the Kid Buu was actually the first, the Shadow one was the second I made. I thought the shadow one was better myself, the Kid Buu one didn't come out right for me, maybe because the images I chose weren't as well suited for the effects as the ones the tutorial maker was using. |

These are so much better than my first few. I think you have a real eye for basic things like colour and composition. The Shadow signature is really good as is the kid buu one. I can't wait to see you make more stuff if this is what your beginner phase looks like! The text doesn't really work in your second signature (Text is tricky, mine always sucks) Render quality is important too, keep an eye out for images that are clean and sharp, avoid any blurry or choppy images. |
