Posts: 11,612 Group: Legend Member #88 Joined: January 16, 2005	http://sports.yahoo.com/news/olympics--david-beckham-left-off-great-britain-olympic-team.html So the news has it that Beckham isn't playing the Olympics for Britain and it's probably going to be the last opportunity he has to represent himself as part of the English at the international/Olympic level given his age. My question to those who follow sports, was this a bit of a harsh cut given the lack of opportunities he's got and his age? More specific question to those in Britain, is this a big deal at all for a celebrity start like Beckham not being part of the final cut in the squad? could playing in MLS have anything to do with him not making the team ? Is Micah Richards have that much of an effect on Defense than Beckham in the Middle?

Deleted User	I find it very funny that in Canada at least he is all over the TV when they promo the summer games and hes not even going to be participating ? haha sucks for him

He could still go on to represent England at veteran level, but I do feel bad for him. I always thought he got dropped too late but I still think it would be the coolest thing ever if he got called up to the England team again and saved the day lol (talking about England as in World Cup 2014 not GB). edit: He's even from East London....that's even worse.... No I don't think they have but they've been going through cuts 2. Maybe? Does it matter 3. Micah Richards is a defender that has been gaining great appeal in games and performance. It's said that it might've come down to him vs Beckham to see who would've made the cut. Did you read the article? He was playing very well recently in LA, almost a goal per game.

Ninjajp/Slayerslice appeal	Is your 2nd point about Beckham's form? Because yeh I do think it matters. If he's clearly not up to the job he shouldn't be in the squad. I'd like Britain to actually do well, and this is a rare chance at international success for a lot of Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish players such as Ryan Giggs, so they should really make sure they have a strong squad. Micah Richards probably got picked because he didn't get picked for England even though some thought he should (and him and Stuart Pearce probably have a close relationship since Pearce managed England's Under-21 team and Man City). I think what matters more though is who else got chosen to play on the right of midfield.

Google Chrome	The thing is, this is one of the only times the UK will enter a football team into the Olympics and one of Beckham's last chances to play. I don't think it should matter whether he is on form, he's a professional football player and has been at the top of the game for a number of years. If you ask me, Ryan Giggs and David Beckham would have been the first two players on the team sheet.

Ryan Giggs, Micah Richards and Craig Bellamy are all better players now. It's fair enough arguing that because of his past he deserves a chance but he's been to international tournaments in the past. What I thought was wrong was the whole 'stringing' him along, it did seem that he was certain to be picked and that was unfair to him. From a lot of comments I've seen on websites, it seems people have already forgotten it's team GB not team England, luckily Joe Allen, Bale, Ramsey, Bellamy, Giggs, Taylor, Gunter will soon fix that.
