How do you think it would turn out if the 1998-2000 France team played the 2008-2010 Spain team? Two of the only 3 National teams to be European and World Champions at the same time (other being West Germany in the 70s). Don't know if many here are actually old enough to remember watching in 1998/2000. edit: btw this is football/soccer edit: These were the squads btw- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1998_FIFA_World_Cup_squads#France http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Euro_2000_squads#France http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Euro_2008_squads#Spain http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_FIFA_World_Cup_squads#Spain Edited by TrunksinSwimmingTrunks, Jun 28 2012, 09:36 PM.

I like how you put in an edit football/soccer. I was assuming that's what it was I think breaking it down to key players would be necessary to evaluate this. I don't think a decade of the times has changed so much in the style of play. It's amazing how the France team didn't do much and still hasn't beyond that short period of time at an international level. 1998-2002 was the best time for the French team. Spain is on a high now with the same stride but recently they've become more consistent since 2006ish imo. Overall if you look at the teams I believe that the style of play, the manager/coaching and teamwork has overall been great for Spain. Other teams are finally starting to understand how the teams works and are working to stop their reign over international cups. However to a players stand point, I think France and more prolific players. Yes you have Torres and Villa for Spain but imo that's nothing in comparison to players like Henry and Zidane who were both legendary in their careers. I might be wrong, but I only remember so much about the French team from over a decade ago. I think they had more playmakers back then but Spain has the better overall team and schemes |

Henry and Zidane are great players, but to say that Spain only have Villa and Torres is very misleading. Spain has always had great players throughout their history, but were known as the underachievers because of the lack of trophies they' have won. Just before you say Villa and Torres are two of the main ones let me just name you a few of the players you are missing that could play on the SPanish national team today and some that are playing today. These players have made a difference in the game. You are forgetting Casillas, RAUL (i should make his name big because Raul is one of the best strikers in history), Morientes, Xavi, Iniesta, David Silva, Luis Enrique. Just look up those players and you're already seeing stars. I'm too young to remember the France team from a decade ago. However, I do know that whenever people see Spain play they say they have changed the way the game is played and how we look at team sports today. It's unfortunate that they only realize that now because Spain has played this way for a long time. How do I know? I've watched them and so has my dad. However, since they didn't win any world cups, no one ever took notice to the way they played. Just in case you don't know who Raul is ![]()

Oh man, My mistake Pookie. No disrespect, I thought the topic was for Spain from 2010-2012 Not '08-'10. ANd I was focusing more on the top scorers of the two teams than the actual team. I do mention Spain imo has always had the better team because of it's players. Noone questions the players you mentioned, I'll even add in Negrado, Llorente and the two Sergios to that list in being great. Yes absolutely Raul is a legend, its crazy how consistent he had been over the year. All those appearances, and setting records in the international level. His long time play in Real Madrid can't be forgotten as well. So you're right in that at the time they were doing great things. Not to get too off topic though, In David Villas defense, I think people underestimate him. I'm not a huge fan but I'm speaking simply from performances I've seen at the international level and records. David Villa has surpassed nearly every record set by Raul in the 90's and 00's at the international level. They played on the same squads together and people make him out to be some sort of bad guy when really he's a prize to be won. I think he's got fantastic play, and he's not much younger than Raul. Anyways, yea I still don't know who would win this. I hardly remember any of France growing up. |
