I don't follow football but I saw this story on yahoo and thought it was heart warming.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/brandon-jacobs-gets-3-36-mail-six-old-224310864.html

A six year old Giants fan named Joe was sad to hear his favorite player, Brandon Jacobs, was switching teams at the end of the season because the Giants didn't have enough money to keep him. So in an effort to get him to stay Joe sent him a letter with his piggy bank money.

The money wasn't enough to get Jacobs to stay with the Giants but Joe did get a signed helmet when he met him in person and spent the day with him.

Brandon Jacobs went on to say that fans like Joe are what help motivates him to keep playing.
"I'm at a point in my career when people have stopped believing in me and not believing that I can still play. But that's not the case. Joe believes in me, gave me a lot of confidence and a lot of want-to. And I'm ready to go. I can't wait until the season starts."

Yeah I heard that happened, turns out Brandon Jacobs is a teddy bear instead of a muscle head who likes to plow over people for a living. It was actually a pretty touching story, and the kid made some money and saw an NFL star... pretty epic!
