What are your views on genders in society and marriage? Do you think they are equal, or should men still be considered superior? I see men and women as equals. We are equally capable of learning, and our thought processes are generally the same. While men are usually considered the more physical of the two, that is not always the case. I do not believe that one gender should be considered superior to the other; however, I do believe that certain jobs are better suited for a man or a woman. For example, women (in general, because this is obviously not always the case) are better suited for caring for children, whereas men are better suited for taking care of the family. Of course, this is never set in stone, but I do believe that it is how we were designed; therefore, it is default. I believe that the responsibilities of marriage should be equal. Even though women generally are designed as care-givers, men are just as capable of raising their children. In my ideal marriage, the housework and other responsibilities (taxes, etc.) would be divided. Feminism nowadays seems to be moot. Females have already progressed so much in society; they are now given benefits over men in some areas, such as scholarships, job opportunities, etc., and yet I still hear women complaining about how they are "mistreated by society." Is that really the case? |

I see men and women as equals but better at specific roles much like you described. Women generally peform better in certain areas than men do and the other way around. I like to think that it's well balanced. I don't think, at least in my country that some women are paid the same rates as men in the workplace. Probably because of some feeble excuse like needing the time off in the future for pregnancy and child care or something silly like that. I can't think of any other reason for it to be the case. Unless it's just that nobody has gotten around to changing it yet? But I'm fairly sure at work, women are paid a bit less. I can't comment on how the majority of women are treated at work since I have never worked a day in my life. I like to imagine that it's mostly fair. But as I said, I have no clue about that. |

Last I heard, women get paid about 65 cents for every 1 dollar a man makes in general, but that could've changed recently. I still find things are unequal. Women will want equal rights but will still pull the "I'm a woman, don't hurt me because I'm fragile (see: inferior)" card whenever they're backed into a corner. Not always the case, but I have seen it a lot over the years. I agree with the rest of your post, though. Housework and whatnot should be divided equally, and roles can be interchangeable, but certain roles are suited more for a specific gender IMO. Military combat, for instance, is a hot field that's still closed off to women. Some agree, some disagree... |

I agree. I hear the "guys should never hit girls" card thrown around all the time. Well, why not? Isn't that sexism? It irks me when I hear that from supposed "feminists," especially. Women only cause problems in the military, generally. Hasn't it been statistically proven that more men die in combat when there are more women present? |

Men and woman should be equal. At this stage in western society (not global society as in most parts of the world it is still highly unequal) men and women are pretty much equal, there or thereabouts, but there are still major discrepancies such as women being paid slightly less per hour than men, or the fact that there are less women in the top jobs or central government positions. These should perhaps be rectified but if we're going to look at feminism, what I have to say about that is basically that at this point it really annoys me. Fundamentally, feminism is and was a good idea, because women should be equal to men, but the key word there is equal and yet i find a lot of feminists, and especially brainwashed teenaged girls acting almost entitled in the way they believe they should be treated. They seem to think they should take and take and take and never care about the repercussions it has on the male gender "because men have everything their way" which quite frankly is bull*****. Life is unfair to everybody, if women are being treated unfairly by men, you can be damn sure that something women are doing is unfair to men in this day and age, maybe not so much the past. You get these stupid girls that are like "OMG YOU CAN'T HIT A GIRL" when they seem to think it's perfectly fine to hit a man. Why can't you hit a girl? Because it's morally wrong, you can't hurt a delicate flower of a person, because women are meant to be the fairer sex and unable to deal with the physical demand of being hit (not my personal views, I'm just rolling out the assumptions here). So what makes hitting a man morally right? What makes it acceptable to force men to act civil and more docile at least towards women, yet women seem to be allowed to lose it and hit men? Nothing, the answer is nothing. Women seem to think that men have no feelings, they constantly try to force them to gain emotional maturity, yet are perfectly content with disregarding that emotional maturity when it suits them, when they think they can get away with it and to my mind therefore are taking liberties from the fact women had previously not been treated well. If one of these girls was sent back in time to live in say the 1950s, they wouldn't know the half of how good they have things right now. They act as if they know real pain and the full extent of women's suffrage, when actually, a lot of men these days are highly sensitive and much more politically and socially correct on their standpoint on the treatment of women - that isn't to say there are still stupid sex-hungry, sex-driven men out there that mistreat women and see them as objects, but that's no different to a particularly slutty girl treating men in the same regard; yet that seems to be fine because "men like sex so they're getting what they want" and somehow still end up being the bad guys - or at least partially at fault because some women these days can never own up to the fact that they take liberties and are selective about when things are fair and unfair as if they run the rule of society. It doesn't work that way. Far from trying to seem like I side with men or with women, I just feel that there is something to be said about the way men get treated, and I know a lot of boys here on the forum feel quite victimised by the way girls treat them at times and to an extent I suppose they might feel helpless because they feel like they're constantly in the wrong just for fundamentally being boys and that isn't right. So guys, know that you have some feminine support on the forum cuz I know girls can be right so-and-so's about stuff and I willingly admit that :P I think that everybody wants equal treatment and should aim for equal treatment so things should be split down the middle as much as possible. If I was being paid less than a man for the same amount of work in the same job then that isn't fair, even children could point that out but like Pelador says, there are feeble excuses in place as to why it isn't changed. I've learnt on my course at Uni that part of it is down to the fact that companies don't want to lose an employee to pregnancy because it means they're paying someone not to do the job and risk uncertainty of them coming back to work and to be honest that is a fair concern, I don't think anybody can deny that from a business perspective, but that doesn't mean women should be mistreated for the work they should do, and it doesn't mean they shouldn't be promoted. There should be more women in higher managerial positions than there are, because a lot of men get them and they are totally incompetent and not fit for the job, even if they just tried appointing more women it might fix that problem even if 50% of the women they promote are just as incompetent - cuz that means they can have 50% competent men, and 50% competent women doing it, which makes for 100% competence. You will never know anything unless you try, and considering right now a bunch of idiots have plunged the world in economic turmoil, how could changing it now make things any worse as long as the people are qualified? That doesn't apply to all gender issues in society but perhaps that one could be addressed now. A little thing I thought I'd tag on the end here is that the Queen recently made it so that the first born child of any monarch hereafter, if female, becomes first heir to the throne of England, which is pretty awesome. I've done a lot of gender studies at college and university, its one of my favourite sociological fields. |

I think Women and Men should be equal globally. That however isn't going to occur anytime soon. In western societies it's practically a done deal except for a few disagreements. I think a man and women ought to be able to split the house duties in half or however way they agree upon. While men in general are physically stronger this isn't reason enough to say they are better or more superior as has been used by many people. We aren't in the stone ages anymore we don't need to use our physical abilities to protect us from the dangers of the outside world. So it's a moot point in my opinion. Thing about the military is also nonsense if women can do just as well in training as a man she should be allowed to fight alongside it's only fair. It probably has to do with sexual tension happening as if women will only bring out the sexual appetite of the man similar to the accusations of the homosexual male in the military. |

No man or woman is equal. We don't think the same at all. All women are inferior to men in certain things, and vice versa. This ridiculous idea of equality makes no sense to me. Nobody is equal. Nobody. |

Why do you think it doesn't make any sense? I agree that on certain things women do better and men in other things. Does this though mean that it should dictate rights men have over women? In most of the world women are seen as second class citizens. If you believe no one is equal than could it be said someone one's rights over you? It's that same idea that made many a men slaves to another. |

I'm going to focus on the last part considering everyone seems to have adequately covered the rest. This issue that you point out doesn't only exist just for females but minority groups as a whole. The minority group has been oppressed for a long time and just because they now have "equal" rights they're still behind the rest of the group, they actually have to play catch up and they will never win. The minority or subordinate group has been behind the majority or dominate group all along and now that they are "equal" (moving at the same speed), there is no way for the subordinate group to catch up to the dominate group. (imagine 2 cars[D and S]. Car D is 1 mile ahead of car S. They are going the same speed, car S will never catch up to car D without being giving benefits [speed boost/short cuts]) Another example to explain this is: Imagine two basketball teams. One team is allowed the standard 5 players and the other is limited to 3 players. After half time the team with 3 players is given 2 more to even out the players. They now have to play an impossible game of catch up considering that the original 3 players have been doing their best to keep the game even. The losing team needs more than just equality to have a chance of being equal to the winning team. We can also flip the script and say that the dominate group are enjoying excessive luxuries or privileges and some of that needs to be taken away. People usually say that women are paid around 75 cents for every dollar a man makes. How about Men make $1.25 for every dollar a woman makes. What if the pay women are receiving are more reflective of what the pay for a certain job should be and men are just paid extra due to their sex? This is basically the conflict perspective of sociology where members of the dominate group help each other while ignoring members of all other groups. A problem that existed and still exist but to a significantly lesser degree is that the person who did the hiring was usually male and would give the benefit of the doubt to the male applicants. We have laws that exist to prevent/reduce this but they can do so much. The problem when it comes to the highest paying jobs is that the people doing the hiring at that level are almost exclusively male.
If you want to take this approach you might as well say that no one is equal because I guarantee that you are inferior to me in some ways and that I am inferior to you in some ways. |

This topic confuses me. Are we talking abut rights and privileges in certain societies or our genetic code and why men are more structured in certain areas than woman and vise verse? There is a worlds of difference and I can't comprehend which the OP is asking, maybe I need more sleep.
