Purpose Of Life

I haven’t read the other posts yet, but imo you have two options here. Either you're religious and that defines your meaning to life (ie. do gods will, be good to others, etc.) or you're not religious, in which case there really is no purpose to life.

Right now, I'm in the latter category. In my opinion, there really is no grand "purpose" to this life. Maybe only .00...000001% of our current living population will be remembered in 300 years. The reality is, you have to make your own purpose. To find love, to become successful, to have children, to pursue your dreams, etc. This is all like one big game of the Sims. On my bad days, I want to kill myself because of how pointless this life seems. I mean, why not just cut to the chase? But, on my good days (like right now), my only real goal is to do what makes me happy. I'd like to die a happy man, no more, no less.

I really do not see a point to our existence, regardless of religion. We just seem to be one irrelevant cog in the machine of life itself.

This. I completely agree.

We don't have any purpose at all. We have just evolved into the beings that we are today in my opinion. Sure, there's the drive to survive and repopulate but is that really a 'purpose' per se? To think that we are here with a purpose is illogical. The Human Race is mortal; reproducing would be a fruitless endeavour because in about 1000 - 2000 years, I bet the human race will be extinct. Whilst we may give ourselves supposed 'purposes', none of them are large enough to be considered a purpose of life. We are purposeless beings, going along in life trying to figure out the meaning of our lives. The Dinosaurs may have had a purpose in life but they were all but annihilated by an asteroid/meteor. Whatever purpose we may have is, at the end of the day, pointless. The human race is walking to its demise. Everything can be explained with Math. Although, it is nice to give yourself a purpose in life, something to work towards and abide by.

^ Thats kind of silly to say though. The whole point of religion is that there is a purpose to life. Whether its to live your life according to god so that you can go to heaven, reach Nirvana, whatever. Not that I think theres a purpose to life, just saying.

I kinda agree with this.
If there is a God then I would assume we're here for a reason, maybe a reason that no human finds out until they die, I'd hate to think that we were created just for the sole purpose of living a life that would determine where our soul ends up :errm:

If there is no God then the entire human race, and any other race, could just be a huge coincidence and there really is no purpose, we just happened to evolve from whatever it was after the big bang and when the human race is wiped out it won't mean anything.

Can't really say it much better myself. We achieve our own goals, fight our own inner demons, realize our celestial impotence, reproduce and die.

Purpose of Life...interesting. Well, really I think there is no purpose as some others believe... basically, we roam around and do whatever and see where it leads us. We werent put here for any reason, we just simply exist.

I just want to be happy and healthy. I want to be live until 100+, and be healthy and happy. If that is possible. So I guess yes, I could agree with Kotetsu. I don't want to be rich and famous, I'll accept a more low profile and humble life. Right now I'm not super happy with my life. One day I want to be married, with alot of kids, in a humble yet nurturable environment, most preferably a farm town or a mountain town, even a small port town I'd be happy with. None of this urban city life where most people, just think about themselves.

Here we got people who have more than enough money to put food on the table and roof over 5 heads, but they foreclose their credit on indulgence. Things they don't need; 20 000 outfits and 40 000 accesories in their closet you feel what I'm trying to say? I got cousins who live in a small town in southern Italy. They are poor, but they get by. They only got a few pairs of clothes, but they re-wash those clothes and could wear the same outfit 3 times a week, CLEAN! They're not lazy people, they have acces to the internet but they don't spend 18 hours a day on Facebook. They don't have much yet they share the little they have. They have the same neccesities we do, just because they manage the little money they have so well. I've met them twice in my life, yet they are the people who I've connected with them most in the whole world. That my friends is true happines and true survival, that is the purpose of life. I'd want to live that way one day.

I believe all organisms are born to survive the best they can. Whether that's the purpose of life or not is really up to you.

Purpose? I don't think there is one. Life is just here as far as I'm concerned, I intend to enjoy myself and try and push humanity to do more good because this is all we have so I want it to be nice for the next lot coming in as well as us but I don't think we have any true purpose. I'm okay with that.

As for why your body wishes to propagate itself...well, put it this way. It's not that your genes desire offspring, it's that the genes which push you to have kids and have kids that will survive and have more kids are more common by their very nature than those which don't.
Your body is designed to survive, have children and help them survive, it's what it's trying to make you do all the time because the coding for those actions is the one which is passed on simply because of its nature...

It's a difficult idea for some, thinking about it in terms of desire is wrong, try to think of it in terms of what is.

Why are people convinced there even has to be a meaning? In my opinion, we're an accident. A creation that spawned due to the events of the universe years and years ago.

We're not special, we're here by chance in my opinion. Unless you're religious well then... I don't know what to say to that.
The blonde girl with the black lips turned to Valkyrie.
"We know," she said. "We've seen the future. We know you're going to kill the world..."

Release it Gohan! Release everything! Remember all the pain he's caused... The people he's hurt... NOW MAKE THAT YOUR POWER!!!!

Exactly.

If there is any reason at all its likely just to end.

Who ever said there has to be a reason?

I don't see why people fuss over it their whole lives when we've been trying and failing to find a reason for thousands of years.
We succeed in practically ever other endeavor, so maybe theres nothing to find?

Shouldn't be that hard to accept.

I thought you were religious XD

Anyway, I think we are meant to do good and spread goodness to all other things and live in harmony.

Just asking...if there isn't a purpose to life, then why can't we just do whatever the hell we want? The outcome would be the same.
