And M5 happens in a AU where Goku trains instead of learning the IT, but AS Goku trained harder because he had sparring partners and he knew about the androids, so he trained as much as possible.

Roshi never saw Initial SSJ Goku. Of course Goku would've gotten stronger if Roshi is basing it off the Goku who left for Namek vs. the Goku who came back from Namek.
