I know a lot of people see him as a copy of L, but when you think about it, his methods are completely different. From what it seems, he places a lot less value on human life and is arguably more stubborn than L. Whilst it's true that he took Three years investigating the Kira case whereas L took a few months, it must be taken into account that Light was heading the Japanese Task Force and it would be obviously much more difficult for N to gather information. Sure, he's based on L (It should be expected, he's L's true Successor), but he's still quite different and although he's younger, I find his character much more believable. |

Well, I dont hate him. I personally found his involvement into Kira's case as engaging. While I do have respect for L, I found Near to be much more relateable, perhaps for his methods of investigation or his penchant of playin with his hairs. Anway, I feel most hate not only for Near but for the Death Note as a whole resulted frm the split. A single awesome character, L is somewhat split into 2 individual characters. Though the creator really emphasized on preventin the repetition of One-on-One Versus, I guess it has to do with fans mentality... |

I think he's a good character but I don't like him as a person. Like you said, he doesn't seem to care much about human life at all (apart from possibly Mello's weirdly enough). It was also that speech he gave to Light at the very end and how he planned everything. He didn't want to just catch or beat Light. He wanted to tear him to pieces, to completely destroy him and everything he stood for. That's just too malicious for someone who we're supposed to think is on the good side.... I like his little similarities with L though. He has a similar type of appearance and the way he plays with his hair and toys is reminiscent of L. I mean like you said, it was made clear that Near IS his successor so it's no surprise that he acts similar to L. |
