Toei and Toriyama

I've made this topic because I see a lot of ignorant posts on how because things haven't been revealed in the manga it must automatically means Toei didn't know about it.

First off, Toriyama was heavily involved in Toei's production of the DBZ anime.

Toriyama interview about the anime

-- When the series was being made into an anime, did you give the anime staff any demands?

--
Toriyama
I intended to leave everything up to them, so I don't think I had anything in particular. But I did warn them when I felt they were moving too much in a certain direction.

-- What did you think the first time you saw Goku move? Did the voice fit your own image?

--
Toriyama
I was wondering what they were going to do when his head moved, since his hairstyle wasn't really consistent, so I admire whoever had to had to make it look as if it were. The voice fit my image exactly. But I guess that's only natural, since I listened to the seiyuu audition tapes and picked it myself (laughs). The truth is that I don't know much about anime, so even when I was told the name Nozawa Masako, at the time I had no idea she was someone famous.

Secondly, there's a reason that there's so much filler in DBZ.

Almost always, when an anime is catching up to its particular manga, the head director of the anime will call for filler to be made, so that the anime can slow it's pace, and the manga can pass faster than the anime.

___________

So, my point is that Toei had to keep up with Toriyama, and they knew every step he took during the manga's serialization, and that's why there's so much filler. Thus, saying things like ''it wasn't out in the manga'' hold no water, because Toriyama and Toei were ALWAYS in close talks, because he was involved with the production of the anime.

Thoughts?

I doubt they knew everything, otherwise Movie 10 wouldn't be such a cluster*****, but I agree that they were never completely in the dark.

I think they knew their fair share.

Otherwise, Dende being God in Movie 6 was just a lucky guess, because in the manga, Goku was still in the RoSaT, I believe.

I think I read somewhere on Daizex that it was Toei's idea and Toriyama liked it so he used it in the manga.

How much more in the wrong direction can they get compared to completely making up the origin's of the dragonballs and the Saiyan's planet and making SSj3 Goku >>>>> Super Buu?

That makes me question Toriyama's supervision. That or his commitment to continuity.

I think SSJ3 vs. Super Boo was just once of those fights where they had to extend in order to not catch up to the manga, and there was no real other way of doing that other than having Goku fight Boo while Gohan was looking to the potara.

They could've easily inserted a bunch of meaningless dialogue or a prolonged flashback/power-up, like they did for other episodes.

True.

Well, like I've always said...

Toei = Goku fanboys.

Thala na Gethu!

You knw, as much as TOEI & Toriyama are closely linked, to the point of filler productions, I guess TOEI took over DBZ completly frm early Boo Saga onwards.

I dunno but DBZ manga ended in mid 1995, while the anime countinued un till January1996. As we all knw, Akira Toriyama was burned out by that time that he desperately wanted a break, while on the other hand, DBZ in itself was popular surpassin even its manga counterpart.

Given that, I feel some ridiculous fillers as SSJ3 Goku vs Buutenks or even SSJ Goku vs Mystic Gohan has little to no connection to Toriyama-san.

It is what Toriyama wanted to portray, but he could not go back and change the manga.

Did toei even understands all of toyirima's power scale/'DBZ rules'? I mean, they have Vegeta budging from a punch from cell and right after that taking a Gyarikku Hou with no damage. They also truly underestimate goten and trunks... the black guy can block their punches, and their base forms arent even above cyborg 18 in movie 11, since they transformed the moment they saw her getting pwnd, infact, she didnt do any better than mr.popo against the ssj kids. Roflmao.

By the buu saga with no connection to the above things, they just decided to ignore the manga and put whatever they like to see. base goku ~ ultimate gohan, ultimate gohan > super buu, super buu > ssj goku > ultimate gohan... see the plot hole here?
