From there Pan crying and the picture of his friends and family reminded him of who he was. When he realized that, he was able to convert the ape form into the ssj4 form. Goku would then be able to do the transformation and bypass ssj3 and golden ape, as he had a full grown and permanent tail. Vegeta used blitz waves from Bulmas machine to create an artificial tail for himself. Then from there he became a giant ape. He never truly lost control, just wanted to scare Goku as his ape mind wasn't primal. He then went golden and converted into the ssj4 form. Vegeta couldn't replicate the transformation like Goku because he had no tail to make the transformation happen full time without Bulma creating a temporary artificial one

Google Chrome Favourite Manga Naruto, One Piece, Hajime no Ippo, Bakuman, FMA Brotherhood	Goku achieved this form in Dragon Ball GT after Old Kai helped Goku to grow back his tail which allowed him to once again transform into a Great Ape. When he looked at the earth in the Baby Saga, its sufficient substitute Blutz waves allowed him to take this form, a combination of the Super Saiyan state and the classic Great Ape transformation. Upon regaining control, he later transformed into Super Saiyan 4, his strongest form yet.
	I'm just a piece of trash.. but there are things I learned. The hole in your heart is something other people can fill. If you reject your friends' feelings and this world.. Just because something didn't go as you wished, no one will ever come to you. And so that hole won't be filled either, if you just run away without doing anything people won't do anything for you either.. As long as you don't give up, you can still be saved
