Over the years, I've come across many fans of DBZ, though not neccesarily otaku's, due to limited DBZ' exposure in my country. As a matter of fact, most of the anime rarely show up in my nation, unless by sheer luck. Back to the topic, what's the main reason for this so-called fanboyism? Say, Goku fanboys trash-talkin on Mystic Gohan, or vice-versa, whats the real reason? Love towards the characters of the fault of some fans themselves, as it shows their inability to accept, analyze,& interpret the facts, without bias. |

I'd say you nailed it there with ''love towards the character.'' I'll admit, I love Tien, and am obviously a fanboy, but I'd never say that Tien > Kid Boo or any ridiculous statement like that. There's some people who have gone on to insinuate ridiculous things just because of fanboyism. There's a master of fanboyism lurking now

Fanboyism or fangirlism is twisting statements to benefit your favored character while ignoring any objection. |

Not trying to start anything here, but isn't that what you do? Correct me if I'm wrong, but you once implied that Goku > Gohan (Cell Games) when we all know that's not even close to true. |

Lol I don't think there is anything wrong with having a favorite character. My favorite character is Chichi and I always talk about how she could have been so awesome if given the chance. I'd defend her until the very end. However, I have to agree that some people go overboard and say ridiculous statements. Something like Mystic Gohan and Ssj3 Goku will always be debated. |

Haha your something else MoDB. Your just too much. But I think it falls for loving the character. I love Gohan, one of my favorites but I also can't be naive and know what Gohan can and cannot do. No point in lying to myself. Won't get anywhere in here with that. |

He's got you there pal. I'm not really sure what the question is that you're asking though Chou. Surely what you're asking (from what I gather) is answered in your opening post, if not the word fanboy/fangirl itself. A fanboy/girl of Mystic Gohan is a fanatic. Fan = fanatic. The definition of a fanatic from Google is: A person filled with excessive and single-minded zeal, esp. for an extreme religious or political cause. In this case however it is just applied to an anime character. They have excessive single-minded zeal and appreciation for Mystic Gohan, above all other DBZ characters and maybe even all other forms of Gohan, whether it's because they think his moveset is better, or they just think he looks cooler or has a better personality. There is no rationality to why he is better, they just like him better, that's their opinion. Fanboys/girls, by definition, have no ability to reason, and therefore cannot logically argue why he is better - to them, he just is and it renders them unable to accept that someone else might be better. To normal people it might just seem like stubbornness, but actually it's more of a display of stubbornness brought on by an overwhelming fondness of a single thing; i.e. they become defensive/protective/angry because something they care very much about is either being threatened, or, they are offended that not everybody feels the same way they do. There are "fanboys" and there are fanboys. "Fanboys" we might say are people who like a specific character like Goku for example, but there are fanboys who not only like Goku, but Goku is the be all and end all of anything DBZ, and if your opinion differs from that you must be wrong. "Fanboys" still retain the ability to accept and logically argue something - it's just a title, whereas fanboys by definition possess no ability to discuss anything without extreme bias. It is a personality trait with which people either learn to control their feelings or they do not. Anybody saying Goku is better than Gohan when fighting Cell for example is probably 9 times out of 10 wrong during that conversation UNLESS that person can logically argue why he was stronger. This is not my opinion by the way, but that's the way it seems to me, based on my interpretation of the anime, and the reactions I read in this topic for example. Hope this wasn't too long and summed it up for you. |

That's not true. MoDB insinuates that Goku > Gohan at the end of the Cell Games when there's no real logical explanation for it. He's a hardcore fanboy, anyway you look at it. I personally don't think there's anything wrong with that, but denying the obvious is wrong. |
