Bardock's cannoncity

I heard some people saying that Bardock isn't canon.

They say that the only reason Bardock is canon is because Toriyama was inspired to put him in the manga after the anime special, thus he isn't canon.

Thoughts? Mine personally are: If it was in the manga, it's 100% canon.

I think the anime special aired before he was shown in the manga, but that has little to no relevancy.

I am sorry but I'm still new to all this forum talk.

I've tried to deprive what cannon means from all i've read, but I'm still unsure.


Is something that is canon considered 'Real Information' and something that is non canon is considered like almost a huge plothole that should be ignored?

Basically, canon is something that is from the source material and is confirmed as "having happened" or being part of the series. With DBZ it's pretty much something that's in the manga. Anything that's only present in the anime/movies/GT is non canon.
