I believe that Graham Taylor is often regarded as one of the worst England managers of all time. I need to do more research on that one though.

Wow, Milan Baros is still playing in the Czech Republic first team. I totally forgot about him. And Rommedahl, so many names I remember but haven't seen for ages. I can't believe Buffon is still playing. I thought he was about 40 in the 2006 World Cup.

The Netherlands seem to have a lot of players in their side too.

And David De Gea actually made it into the Spanish line up. I thought he was way out of their league. He seems to be the third choice though so he might not get a game. I also love how Robbie Keane is in the Republic of Ireland's team. He's in the MLS now which is almost like footballer retirement these days XD

Olof Mellberg, Van Nistelrooy's arch nemesis at Aston Villa is going with Sweden, although weirdly Ibrahimovic is the captain. That seems like a really weird choice to me when you've got a player as old as Mellberg, and Anders Svensson come to think of it.

Honestly, I think England look like one of the weakest teams there. So the England fans shouldn't really be expecting much, as I'm sure they have learned over the years anyway.

Buffon kinda reminds me of Oliver Kahn from Germany. Lol it seemed like he was always on the team my goodness. I think Oliver Kahn was like 50 when he retired. He was still a great goalie though. Experience can do wonders.

Well Spain has a lot of injuries this coming Eurocup with Puyol and Villa. We are still waiting to see if Villa will make it, but I don't think he will be in form so that is kinda depressing. Spain has a lot of talent, but they are bringing in some fresh faces so the chemistry might not be there.

I think Germany has one of the best chances of winning. Their team has youth and experience coming from the World Cup. They gave Spain a run for their money in the World Cup.

Another team I see being successful is Netherlands. I think they are going to be looking for revenge and will play at their highest intensity. They want to go in for the win after their World Cup loss.

I really don't see Italy or France doing anything. It seems like they have plenty of old players, and I have not heard much about any new talent as far as those two countries are concerned.

Did they come out with the English squad yet?

This is the Spanish Squad so far

If you guys see any other squads, post them up so we can examine them.

Just noticed that De Gea got in ahead of Victor Valdes.not like it matters, they'll just be a third choice keeper but it's interesting that De Gea seems to be really pushing on in the Spain squad. He's had a good season for Man Utd after an early wobble and had better save percentagens and clean sheets than everyone except Joe Hart.

Not been keeping up with anything but....
I have hope just because Steven Gerrard is finally the captain.
I thought Ferdinand had been more consistent in the last few years than Terry though, so wasn't too happy to hear that he'd been dropped. If it's down to the Anton/Terry thing then I think it's unfair for him to be dropped when it's Terry at fault in the first place. As for Downing well Edgar Davids said recently that he thinks England's best chance of success is to build a team around Gerrard so that could be Hodgson's thinking there.
Surprised Richards wasn't picked since I'm guessing he's been playing well if he's getting picked for Man City, and we usually seem to overrate players who make a young debut (Owen, Rooney, Walcott, Joe Cole....all good but still overrated). Not sure what Carrol is doing in there really, maybe just for the sake of Gerrard but I thought he was playing badly, whereas Sturridge has been scoring a lot. Don't understand why Walcott should be picked at all. Crouchy seems to be doing ok too.

Looking forwards to it starting....I'd probably go with the Netherlands or Germany winning it.

I don't see what you English are complaining about. You guys have a lot of talent and speed. I'm sure you will do well in the Eurocup. You never know. They may even win it. I think England has a lot to play for especially being that the Olympics is in London. They want to bring home the gold.

Could win yeh, I think any team can have some surprise success. At least for me the reason I tend to be negative about England is that they always get overhyped and the the press make us expect so much.

Some surprising friendly results last night, especially Germany and the Netherlands losing. England looked rather lackluster in their friendly, while Ireland were the same as always, unspectacular but defensively solid. Spain's second string walked it against Serbia (which is a big statement in itself) and I made a drunken bet about how the groups will end up. So, all in all, I can't wait for this to start now :D

I'm guessing Pelador was right about the Graham Taylor guy since according to him Andy Carroll was England's best player against Norway lol. He did more in defense than attack and even there he gave away a corner from further out than the penalty area just by passing badly. Gerrard was playing the best offensively I'd say until he got booing and also Parker was solid. They were the 2 most experienced international players though so I guess that's expected a bit. ITV commentators annoyed me going on about everything decent England did being amazing, feel like they're stuck in the past when everyone else is being more realistic finally. Don't know how many German players are Bayern Munich players but none of that lot played in the defeat to Switzerland. Still, might show a lack of depth to the squad, or maybe the manager was just testing stuff out. Netherlands losing is surprising though. Think they play attacking though and they were missing Robben.

Well more friendlies next week.

Because a lot of these players are average. Do you honestly think that Stewart Downing is on the same level as a player like Xavi, or Christiano Ronaldo or Arjen Robben? None of the players we have can say that they rightfully deserve a place among the best in Europe, let alone the best in the world. I would say that Wayne Rooney would probably be one of the only players that would even get near a pundit's World XI choice squad these days, when before, our team had contenders.

Yo

There's been a lot of odd results, I'm entering a local dream team which is always fun.

I put some money on the Dutch in 2010, wondering whether to repeat that this year with hopefully more success.
Spain should just field a team of midfielders, they're depth there is incredible.

Well I don't think the English should be worried Storm. They at least have a quality player like Rooney. I see Italy and France having to be more worried about their outcomes. Most of their teams are full of old players.
