Del Bosque put all midfielders because Italy was playing a 3-5-2 and would have ultimatley outweighed the Spanish midfield. Both teams tried something deifferent, Spain sacrificed a striker and Italy sacrificed their traditionally defensive formation. |

That makes no sense. There is no reasoning in not having a striker, your chances of getting any goals is going to go down. Spain were basically playing 4 - 6 - 0 and that showed. Fortunately Fabregas got them a goal but had they just stuck to something more traditional I feel they could have gotten more. I mean the Spanish team has more midfielders than any other team in the world probably and they normally play with a lot of them at once, so Italy bringing on 5 is a good tactic but I don't feel it should be that much to handle. The Spanish team is diverse enough without David Villa to play almost any formation and the one they picked was just too odd. |

Well Denmark and Portugal today. If it's true that Portugal are weak at the back then I'd have to say I don't think Portugal will win, either a draw or a Danish win. Germany vs Netherlands will be good, Germany should edge it if they play better than the last game, but if they don't get themselves in check they'll be in trouble. Not sure about that one really..... Lol I find the singing of the anthems funny....Robby Keane was probably the best, wonder what the mascot kid in front of him was thinking. I'm not much of a singer either though. |

Denmark seem to be picking up the pace and being more creative around the box. It's a very good game and could still go either way if it carries on like this. But I have portugal winning 3-1. |

Boy was I wrong about the score prediction. Denmark are punishing them for their failures. Seems I was close after all. Edited by Pelador, Jun 13 2012, 05:46 PM.

Awwww man so disappointed. When Daniel Agger went up I thought he might be able to score one of his long range goals. I don't really think Denmark could beat Germany, be more sure after I watch this next game though. Portugal and Denmark are level right now on points and goal difference. |

I didn't read the posts above me because I don't want to see the Portugal score yet. I'll comment when I see the game when I see it recorded. @Mcesse- Spain has a hard time playing against France/Italy for some reason. I always worry when they play each other because they notoriously do not get the best of Italy. They always have a bad streak against them. Spain has a much better team than Italy this year and there is no reason they shouldn't have won the match especially when Italy came from a gambling scandal and fixing matches scandal. Del BOsque's tactics didn't work and Italy came out with something different, but I'm pretty sure if he puts in a striker in the beginning Italy doesn't have a chance. Not anything against Italy because they have had talented teams in the past that out shined Spain. I mean they have 4 world cups for a reason, but they are notoriously known for putting 10 people on defense and playing counter attack. Spain this year had the better team, but did not play as well as they could have. Spain has always played possession football and most of the time it works, but sometimes if another team gets a counter attack it can be deadly. It's exactly what happened to Spain in the 2010 world cup against Switzerland and in the Confederations cup against the United states. They had all the possession, but the other team got one counter attack and did damage. I am happy with the way Spain reacted after they got scored on. They didn't panic and kept going at the Italians. I was worried when Italy scored because they bunker down after 1 goal. |

The Denmark Portugal game was a great game, one of the best if not the best of the tournament so far. I was surprised Nicklas Bentner has as many goals as he does against Portugal of all people, 6 goals in 5 games now. He's been awful in the premiership so perhaps a move abroad to a new team might turn him into a better player than we've seen in England. |

Ok so how many goals do we think Germany will score against Netherlands? 6, 7, 20? If Holland play like they did in their last game then we will likely see a crazy score like that. |

I'm gonna predict something based on the first thing that comes to my head. Maybe 3 - 2 to Germany? Possibly 3 - 1. I dunno why, just the first thing that came to mind. Hoping to see some good defending from Mats Hummels again. |

2-1. You were close. Netherlands just weren't quite good enough. They struggled to get past the German back four. They couldn't make the most of their chances. Very good goal by Van Percy though. I didn't actually think Germany played that great. Kind of average really. Very good goals by Gomez of course but overall I didn't see anything too special. |

I'd like to see Denmark go through, but Portugal deserve it just as much. The Netherlands are probably going to lose against Portugal. They're both attacking but Portugal have a decent defense, same can't be said for the Netherlands (couldn't they have just added the "the" to the name somehow....), and Portugal managed to break through Denmark's strong defense 3 times, so yeh Portugal will probably get a win. Denmark I think can manage a draw against Germany, but not a win. Even if both games end up in a draw Portugal will go through probably, since they're bound to score more goals than Denmark. Germany are just good all around, the only team like that in their group. Tomorrow....I'm going for Croatia beating Italy, and Spain and Ireland drawing. I'm quite sure about the first result, not so much about the second. I just think that Ireland will get their defense back on track, and not make mistakes against Spain. edit: I think Germany played well. They were up against a very offensive team, a team which scored lots of goals during qualifying, and forced Denmark to play almost exclusively defensively, yet they were still able to not give the Netherlands many chances and score two goals. haha Spain had me scared the whole from the 64th minute onward though . Italys defense was getting me nervous though. De Rossi was playing as a CB and made a few bad give aways, and all the denfensemen got carded.
