Do you think they should take out "Under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance? For those of you that don't know it wasn't originally in there. It was added in 1954 (in god we trust on our paper money since 1957). I guess they forget about the separation of church and state. I think they should and while they're at it take it off our money too. With a country as big and diverse as ours we need to respect everyone's beliefs and show little bias. |

I think they should stop with the pledge of allegiance all together. Why the heck should you need to do that to prove that you have allegiance? It's an old, nationalistic tradition that needs to be left back in the days of the cold war. |

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

I agree with Pelador but it's pretty symbolic. Remove the "Under God" and it'll be a lot more politically correct. Or not. I'm not really offended. It's idiotic either way, religious or not. |

I wouldn't be comfortable with a pledge of allegiance either but that's a difference issue. In the US one, yes it should be taken out. It's about showing allegiance to your country and not to something that you don't believe in (taking it from an Atheists point of view). |

I really don't care either way. I can be patriotic and not say the pledge. Same with the national anthem, which I've honestly grown quite tired of hearing at every event I go to...just me, though. |

I'm not sure. Okay yeah, it wasn't added until the 1950s. And I admit my own bias, due to it being a part of my childhood and my personal beliefs (which my sense of humor already clashes with haha), but simply put I don't think we should take it out. Not yet, anyway. If we do, it wouldn't bother me that much since yeah it is in its own way showing yeah we should be more open to others' beliefs and such. I mean, am I wrong in saying that one of this reasons people came to America in the first place was religious tolerance? (Seriously, if I'm wrong, point it out to me). Nonetheless, you'd have a hard time convincing others to be more open. We already have that problem, we've *had* that problem for a good while now. |

Yeah I think they should take it out, also I do agree with Pelador about the pledge of allegiance. It is a Pledge, which you should probably only need to say once? But it really doesn't matter about that only the under god does imo. |

It doesn't make a difference whether they take it out or not but the pledge shouldn't contradict what was first established which was to seperate church from state. |

I don't understand why you have this silly pledge? Were the people who thought of it unfamiliar with lieing? |

I can see why they would have the pledge- it's something of a tradition in which you say "I agree to be part of this country and its values"- no practical significance, but it's still got symbolic value. A nation deserves its pride, does it not? I would rather it wasn't there, truth be told. While I wouldn't really be fussed either way if I had to say it, I'd rather not if I had the choice. |

I don't think we should have the pledge either, it just seems dated and unnecessary. |

Well you don't. It's not like they force you to say the pledge. |

It was my understanding that taking the pledge is a requirement of obtaining US Citizenship. So while indeed you don't have to say it, someone who wanted to become a US Citizen clearly has a lot to loose by not doing so. |

Simple as this, really. I, for one, say 'Under Buddha', instead, but that's just me trolling. |
