I may not deserve to live, but I will protect those in my reach with my reverse blade!

I think it might be cool to make a pinned thread in Forum Announcements for hall of fame members who are here or who used to be. People who made/make a positive impact on the forum. It wouldn't be much, maybe just a picture of their avatar and a small article worte about them.

I think to be admitted in the hall of fame you have to of been here for 3+ years and has to be voted on by either the staff or parliamant.

This is just a suggestion, but is anyone interested in this at all?

I'm not to sure if this is a good idea unless we make it harder or don't allow staff/legends/elites to be in the hall. People in those groups are special enough already and I think we should recognize the contributions of members who are not and may never be apart of one of those 3 groups.

Disallowing the stated 3 groups will likely reduce the candidates significantly but also make it truly special for someone to be put in the hall of fame.

Just some other stuff I want to say:

  • Should people nominated receive an email notification? (I think they have the right to be notified)
  • Will a new member group be created for them?
  • 3 years is a loong time

That makes the idea of it being a DBZF hall of fame obsolete. You're basically proposing that the Staff, Legends and Elites aren't good enough to be entered onto a shared community thread just out of "fairness". The way Elites and Legends are meant to work are through good contribution to the forum as well, they aren't just a lucky bag that everybody gets. You only get staff as well if you're deemed responsible and make active contributions to the site. If we don't allow Staff, Legends and Elites, you're basically disqualifying most of the site and also just saying that the thread might as well just be some sort of target for normal members, which wouldn't work anyway, because I'm sure they'd rather be Elites and Legends during their stay here rather than just get their name on one thread.

The DBZF Hall of Fame should be exactly what Cal said. A list of members past and present (regardless of what their job role or title is) that have made an impact to the forum so that people know who they are/were and are remembered. So for example, Xeroblade would be on there. If we omitted staff/elites/legends, he wouldn't be because he was on that list. If it was only members then you'd have a damn hard time getting anybody on there cuz at some point the good members are rewarded and given Elite or Legend status and the rest are either on their way to getting that, haven't been here long enough, and some (not accusing anybody directly but this happens on all internet forums) are just trolls and spammers. That seems sort of like a silly "hall of fame" to me. What it should be is all those awesome normal members in amongst all the staff and elites to show that they're all awesome as well ( and perhaps it should be updated if those members gain or lose elite status).

At the beginning of my post, I said that I feel people in those groups are already special and don't need any more recognition. I'm well aware that people are just easily accept into the group of Staff/Legend/Elite and that is the exact reason why I don't think they should be allowed in the hall of fame. A good portion of the people in those groups have already contributed to the forum in some way. I think it would be ok to put retired staff and elites and legends who have been demoted due to inactivity.

I don't care if we have a hard time finding someone to put on the list. Widening the net for the sake of having more people to add to the list isn't a good idea. If you believe that all the good members will eventually be given Elite or Legend status, then what's the point of them being put in a hall of fame. Everytime they log on and someone sees their Elite or Legend status people will know that those people have contributed more than other members and have been recognized.

To compromise:
If members from the groups; Staff, Elite, or Legend are put in the hall of fame maybe their status as a member of one of those groups should be noted.

I don't see what the big deal is about whether or not Elites, Legends, or Staff Members should be in the hall of fame. A simpler solution is to make the requirements for going in the hall of fame stricter. For example, if 'Supposedly Duping The Most Members' would get you into the Hall Of Fame, I'd get on there, but would I deserve it?

Just make it so that anyone who does meet the requirements to be in the hall of fame actually deserves to be recognized. Furthermore, the requirements should encourage users to make a positive impact on the forum and stay longer. Some thoughts about what these could be:

  • List of users who hit the 10,000 post count. This encourages users to post more, and any person who actually makes 10,000 posts, be they Staff or Elite or Member, should deserve to be recognized
  • User with the most name changes. Since you have to wait 3 months for every name change, this encourages users to stay longer.
  • Non-Staff users who have contributed in making a pinned topic. Pinned topics are usually pretty important, and when a person who isn't in staff helps make one, it's safe to say they did something important. This is just one example of a user, Epsilonite, who helped make a pinned topic. Probably, it would be a good idea to also recognize a staff member who helped.
  • Non-Staff users who have contributed in making a change to the actual forum. For example, any user who actually designed or helped design a skin for the site. This is also an example of this, where Bizness' request got us polls on every page, and collapsible quotes. Of course, the staff member who actually did this (Rogue) would have to be recognized as well in some other situation like this.

Of course, these are just suggestions to help set up what the strictness of the requirements should be.

I think least name changes is better, too many and it looks like you are indecisive :p

Name changes will happen but most isn't a good thing in my opinion.

Also, I'm not sure there is a stat log of name changes, so it might have to be done manually, which is a pain :p

I really like this idea. It gives people the people who deserve it a little more recognition

Regarding the Staff/Elites/Legends, maybe not current staff, but Retired? They already get recognised for being Retired Staff, but then they're in the HoF for good, even though their position might change.

What if we made it so that you only got into the hall of fame after you leave the forum permanently or something then? So it's like a remembrance thread for members that stood out? So for example, Xeroblade left and never came back as far as I'm aware so he'd be on the list, and you'd say what he did while he was here. Or Sunate if you want an example of an ordinary member >_>

That's the point. It stops people squabbling over who gets in it while they're on the forum and allows them to be rewarded while they're here by going for Elite/Legend status or staff.
