After KKx4 his body would be shattered and you could see Son was exhausted when Vegeta transformed. Vegeta was hurt bad but he seemed more 'alive' than Son did IIFC, I really need to go back and read the Saiyajin saga again as I'm a little rusty, but I'm just going on what I remember. I just think Vegeta with a all around higher power level would be able to outlast Son and eventually win. I don't think Vegeta used Oozaru as a last resort, I think it was a way to dispatch of him quickly, rather than prolong it by fighting and risk Son pulling another weird move at the bag. That is the mindset I would have if I was Vegeta anyway. I mean, after being real confident in your power to the point where your weaker opponent produces a beam that blasts you into the air, you would be pretty nervous as to what other weird techniques he could have to over-power you (Genki-Dama, anyone?)

Chrome Favourite Manga Dragon Ball	Whats weird about this fight though is that Vegeta is so resilient to Goku's attacks and his Kamehameha. Compared to other parts of the series where two fighters who have had very close power yet one has owned the other, e.g. Zarbon and Vegeta. It's a unique fight. I'd say it's possible for Goku, but going by their fight prior to the Kamehameha, Goku will need to burst Kaioken x 4 to finish him, and finishing him quick is the only option he has.
