It's a fair enough thing to ask, scanlators do harm SJ and the mangakas themselves. In Japan, they can get the manga easily so there isn't much of an excuse for it. For anyone who reads manga, you'll know that some well known scanlator groups have stopped recently.

However, with the license in other countries I think they've bought it upon themselves. With Viz, they release Shonen Jump Alpha, which is only two weeks behind. But, it's only released in the US and Canada. Which is great for them, but what about everyone else? Are we supposed to just sit around and wait for months until they release the volumes, which are very far behind? Scanlator groups are much more popular because there is no alternative for most people. So, instead of just kicking up a fuss and threatening legal action etc, why don't they offer an alternative? Shonen Jump Alpha is online anyway, so why can't they let everyone else read it? I will feel no sympathy for Viz at all until they give me an option of reading the manga from them.
