I always feel Masako-san did an outstanding job as chibi son. She reached new heights with her distinct voice actin in DBZ for givin slightly similar yet varyin voices for Goku, Gohan and Goten, and it obviously requires a heck of a talent to be able to pull it off, of which she does quite well. Still, I do felt at some points of the series if Son could've been given a slightly masculine version, like what she does to Kai, as well as OVA. Fans? |

I wouldn't call that talent, bro. Slightly altering your voice is something anyone can do. I don't truly understand how people can stand her screechy voice. I mean, she's okay talking an a calm, low voice, but when she screams, LOOK OUT! My ears still hurt after wtching the japanese version of the SS3 transformation scene. Stephanie Nadolny is much better. The voice is deep enough to be a boy, but never enough to be annoying. And I just think that men should voice men. Sean Schimmel and Ian James Corlett were awesome as Goku in the Funi and Ocean dub. Peter Kelamis and by Kirby Morrow are damn good Ocean dub Goku's too. Peter dubbed Goku for the first few movies too. |

Couldn't agree more. Nozawa's Gokuu was terrible and I can't watch the Japanese version because of it. Boooooo. Dub all the way. |

Chibi Son Goku has the best voice of any character in any dub of the series IMO. His adult voice is pretty good too. I think the main reason people hate it is because they never saw his child version in DB so it doesn't make sense to them. |

I'll join the minority and say that she was great. At first I didn't like her but after listening to the Japanese version for a while I realize the talent of Masako Nozawa as Goku, her voice acting is full of personality and she deserves so much more appreciation. |

The japanese son family is all the same high-pitched, whiny, ear-explodingly annoying voice. Everytime I hear Nozawa's voice I want to drive a screwdriver into my eardrums. |

Well, um, back on topic, the first version of DBZ I watched was the English Kai, so Goku's deeper voice by Sean Schemmel seemed most fitting for me. Masako Nozawa's version striked me as odd at first, but when I watched the original DB and found out more about Goku's backstory, it actually personified his childishness and innocence, and was much more fitting for his character IMO. DBZ Kai made Goku seem more like an American superhero, not the childish, innocent, Japanese superhero that he actually is, but I find both versions, the Japanese and American good. I beg to disagree. Slightly altering your voice into an 8 year old kid, 11 year old Teen, 28 year old adult, and heck voicing all the voices at the same time isn't an ordinary job. Its not that Im sayin ur wrong, everyone are entitled to their opinions, but when u can't overlook her SSJ3 transformation, Im sure u can't overlook many dubs faults as well. Screechy voice is one thing, but givin a voice that personifies a character to a T is what actually makes the audience, an outsider to connect with the show's protagonists or characters and later, to appreciate its brilliance, becoming a fan, and I can certainly say DBZ has a large empire of fanboys all over the globe. So? |
