The Republican Candidates

I've been browsing the internet lately, but there's so much information out there, it's hard to sort through it all. Could you guys give me a brief run-down of each of the four Republican candidates and their general stances? I'm torn between them, and I need to align myself with someone soon (or at least I would like to). I know that a lot of you are Ron Paul supporters, so could you clue me in on some of the differences between him and the other candidates?

Any help is much appreciated! Thank you! :D

Why does it have to be a republican candidate?

The best thing to do would be to do a little research. Look up their experience, watch a few of the debates, read up on their history, and analyze their economic plans.
I started following the campaign around September and have watched almost every debate since then. I've also been to a rally for Mitt Romney.

I do like Ron Paul but it seems like he knows he wont win and just wants to spread his political beliefs/knowledge.
That's probably why he has such a fun time at the debates.

Gingrich has a lot of baggage. He cheated and left his wife when she had cancer, many consider him a lobbyist, and he was kicked out of the house because of ethics violations.
However he does great in debates (except for the debate Romney killed him in Florida). He does have experience working with Democrats so that's a plus.

Santorum- Don't bother. He just appeals to social conservatives. The guy is a nut imo.

Romney is probably the most prepared to take on Obama. He believes that his business experience, saving the Olympics, and time as Governor of Massachusetts will help him as President. Problem is Republicans don't seem to like him that much. That's probably why they're always looking for an alternative. This could become and issue in November.
He also has a record of flip flopping but in this day in age what politician doesn't?

Seems to me like Obama is the only safe option from looking at that. He only has one more term left, then the real candidates will show up. The reason that they don't for this one is the statistal fact that most presidents get second terms. So all the decent politicians are waiting it out so they can have more of a chance.

But can we really afford another 4 years?
He has added 5.5 trillion to the debt (he said he would cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term)

I understand you have to spend sometimes to help fix the economy but cutting wouldn't be a bad idea either.
His stimulus bill was poorly executed and the health care one seemed pretty unnecessary considering there were bigger issues at the time. That and a majority of the country didn't want it in the first place.

Lets not forget he passed the NDAA.

But then look at the alternative. Are those candidates any better than Obama? They seem even worse to me.

If I had to choose a president to create jobs I would choose the guy with business experience (helped start up companies like Staples) over a former Senator. Not only that but he was governor of a Democrat state so he also knows how to work with them.

Working in business gives you leadership skills and he had a balanced budget in his state.

But then you could argue business types like to cut corners and prefer money more than anything else. Perhaps that's what America needs? I don't know.

We need something to stabilize our economy or we're done.

I'd rather not vote for Obama either. I was drawn in by his promises back in the day, but I've since grown to dislike the way he's gone about things. Someone new, please.

The main reason he won was because
1. He was black (don't deny it you know it's true)
2. He wasn't a Republican named George Bush

The guy literally came out of nowhere. Barely anyone knew him before he ran for president.

Cell's Angel

I'm voting for Obama still. The whole GOP is crazy honestly

Let's take a look at Ron Paul
http://www.ontheissues.org/tx/ron_paul.htm
Quote:

Abortion is murder.
Roe v. Wade decision was harmful to the Constitution.
Embryonic stem cell programs not constitionally authorized.
Voted YES on banning Family Planning funding in US aid abroad.
Paper money in unconstitutional; only gold is legal tender.
No affirmative action for any group.
Voted YES on banning gay adoptions in DC.

There's a bunch more there. But those are a few the reason I don't like him
there's also this lovely list
http://stfuconservatives.net/post/14519607728

For Romney,
Quote:

Vetoed emergency contraception for rape victims
Vetoed stem cell research bill.
GovWatch: 1994: Favored gays serving openly in military.
Opposes legalization of recreational or medical marijuana.
Climate change is occurring, with SOME human contribution.

honestly, he seems to be better than Ron Paul

and lastly
Obama
http://www.ontheissues.org/Barack_Obama.htm
Quote:

Pass the Stem Cell Research Bill
Protect a woman’s right to choose.
Supports Roe v. Wade.
Voted YES on $100M to reduce teen pregnancy by education & contraceptives.
Invest in early childhood education and higher education.
Government should invest in clean energy & green jobs.
Open Government Initiative on first full day in office.

and there's a bunch more, feel free to peruse.
I'm not going to say, oh, obama's a saint, he's the messiah, etc. etc. whatever. the man is only human and a politician to boot. Yes he has gone back on some promises, but when has a politician NOT done that? I still think he's better, or at least the least worst of all the evils, when it comes down to all the candidates we have present.
