Hmmm. Well, there really aren't any facts about any of this. It is odd that Piccolo improved more than 40 fold in six days, when Goku improved 60 fold in about 2 1/2 months. Nail was impressed, though. Was that in the manga as well?

has anyone ever stopped to think that maybe Trunks just bought his sword somewhere or something? There's nothing really special about it.

Well it did manage to slice Frieza into a shishkebab so it must've been packing more power than your average blade. Hell even Zelda's sword couldn't pull off that ****.

I don't believe in power levels after the Frieza Saga. :D
Now, there's an idea.

^ :( ...

Nail told Piccolo that even with the latter's impressive strength, he'd still be no match for Frieza. 42000 = Nail < Piccolo.

Don't doubt Piccolo just because Goku didn't show as much improvement.
He also said something along the lines of Piccolo resembling the great namekian warriors of their ancestry. That's something that you wouldn't tell an inferior. Regardless of whether that was in the manga or not, there is no evidence to show Piccolo being weaker. Nail could've ,and probably did, meant:

Nail<Piccolo<Frieza

when he said that he'd be no match against Frieza. Also who would say that someone's strength is impressive if it's beneath their own...
We Super Saiyans are in a league of our own.

Nail was impressed in the manga. It took Goku 40 days to catch Bubbles (get used to the gravity), progress of which Kaio considers quick.
within 118 days Goku has to:

  • surpass Kaio
There is a short training montage in which Gohan fights with Piccolo; Goku fights with Kaio, etc.

  • learn Kaioken
Not sure if the first 2 lump together... Kaio states that Goku has gone further with the Kaioken than even Kaio.

  • learn Spirit Bomb
Kaio states that he didn't think Goku would learn Genki Dama so quickly. Forty days (or more) is probably quick for at least these two reasons:

    • Kaio considered the time which Goku mastered the planet's gravity as "quick." Would mastering Genki Dama take longer to master?
    • Kaio had probably lived for hundreds of years, at least, and he had yet to master the technique. Goku mastering it in 118 days would have been quick in comparison, no less 40 or more.
If you'd wanna split that evenly enough, that would be 39 or 40 days for each...? Where as Piccolo and the others didn't seem to mind the gravity as much (Yamcha makes a statement about it). Piccolo isn't attempting to learn Kaioken or Spirit Bomb, which would learn 40 for strength training; his gets stronger in 6.

Even still, maybe he's seen enough of Kaio's technique to memorize and practice at whim...

Keep in mind that when Son Goku arrived on Namek, he considered Vegeta and the others incredibly powerful.

different context. Goku was distinguishing the direction of large ki. Piccolo was in Nail's face.

I really don't see that much of a difference. The Ginyu Force wasn't even that far away from Goku.

I'd have to see the quotes to distinguish the difference, ma'am.

True, but that's because he was comparing them to what they were less than a year ago.
