Ocean & FUNi Dub

Now I'm really confused.

When I first saw Dragon Ball Z on Cartoon Network it was the Ocean Dub. But after a while there was a sudden voice actor and distributor change. FUNimation came in and did the rest of the series, from the Ginyu Saga onwards.

So for years I was under the impression that the Ocean Dub group was bought out by FUNimation. But only a few months ago I had a friend tell me he knows a girl that was the voice of Pan in the Ocean Dubs version of GT.
And tonight I found some clips on youtube that are much further into the series then I original saw.

I know its hard for dubbing groups to buy the rights to an Anime. But this one just hurts to think about. Why would they come in and re-dub a series that was already well into it?

Someone please tell me what missed?

And more importantly why was there two groups dubbing the same series roughly at the same time?!

Novacane for the pain

As far as I know, Funimation had the rights to the dub and hired Ocean to dub it. After a while there was a problem (some kind of money issues I think) so the agreement between them ended. So, Funimation did an in house dub of their own. After a while, Ocean got the rights for a dub to air in the UK and a few other places, so they then carried on with their dub. That means that different countries got different dubs. So yeah, originally Funimation was responsible for the Ocean dub and then the agreement fell apart so two dubs ended up existing.

Interestingly, there isn't an Ocean version for the eps between Ginyu Saga and Trunks saga, as that was when Funimation took over with the in house dub. By the time Ocean decided to dub again, Funimation was up to Trunks so they just carried on from there.

Holy crap thank you!!!

That would have been annoying me for days.
It's a shame they had an argument, personally I liked the Ocean Dub version.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Now this is where I get confused.

I live in the UK, I distinctly remember the saiyan saga being Ocean dub "OVER 9000!!!!" And all.
But I remember Ocean dub for the Cell saga :o_O: I recognise the effects of explosions and stuff, which imo are much better just the voices and scipts suck.

Anyway I don't know what's happened there I only watched it on Cartoon Network.

I also remember the Ocean dub music being in it all the voices were funi dub bt the music and sound effects where Ocean dub...

Ignore the title, lol.

I remember it like that...without Krillins "voice acting"
