It's in his personality to always be prepared and cautious of new threats; after living under the terror of the androids for nearly two decades, he wouldn't as complacent as his main timeline counterpart. Not to mention that Trunks fully understands that he is the only one left who can truly defend the Earth. He wouldn't slack off.
