Was it an underrated saga actually? Be it even during its original airings in 1995 or even after years the show aired in CN. Was it ? |

Super Saiyan among Super Saiyans

I think one of the major reasons that it's underrated is because it succeeds the Cell saga. That was the place where Toriyama wanted to end the series, and plot-wise it was the best place to do so (he also wanted to end DBZ at the frieza saga but that's a different story). Then, you have the buu saga and while the action is great, Majin Vegeta vs Goku Majin Vegeta vs Fat Buu etc., the plot can't compare to Cell and Frieza sagas. For example just off the top of my head: every character who wasn't a saiyan was now useless i.e. piccolo, and goku had many chances to kill buu but didn't. I however still very much like the saga because it delivers action through SSJ3 and fusion. |

http://www.kanzentai.com/intended_end.php I think the saga is underrated because everybody's favorite Namekian is now trash, two kids get to fuse and become Super Saiyan 3, Goku isn't the almighty strongest at the end of the day, it wasn't entirely serious like the last few sagas, and the villain wasn't Cell or Freeza. I don't have a problem with any of that. Edited by Pyrus, Jan 18 2012, 02:06 PM.

I liked the Buu saga, the Fusions were epic, SS3 was epic, Mystic Gohan was epic, Majin Vegeta was epic, Dabura was epic everything was epic! IMO, this saga is on a different level than the others, my favourite was the Cell Saga, but if someone asked me which was better, I couldn't answer

I loved the buu Saga. That one ties with the Freiza saga with me. But overall i can see why its so undersated. Goku made a bunch a dip**** moves. Gohn ends up leagues above everyone but sacrifices his transformations for it. 2 super saiyan 7 and 8 year olds that fuseand become a super saiyan 3. Plus a monster that never really got tired and had unlimited power and stamina and the most hax regeneration skill ever? The saga was just super far fetched.. But it was a very very good one. |

No, I think it is overrated if anything. Buu is a hollow and generic character. His back story is nonsensical and uninteresting, he basically has no motivation, and the whole chocolate thing is embarrassing. The presence of advanced Super Saiyan levels, pretty much everyone going Super Saiyan, and the introduction of fusions basically takes a giant crap on the whole rest of the series. Previously, great warriors like Vegeta, Goku, and Tien had to train for years and even decades to make significant gains in power. But now, whether it be through some Kai magic, transformation, or fusion the main characters can multiply their power exponentially seemingly whenever the situation calls for it. It's just plain lazy writing. Everything past the first Super Saiyan form is complete overkill and it devalues the transformation. The stuff with Saiyaman and Gohan in school is painful to watch. I understand his social ignorance is supposed to create humorous situations and give Gohan some charm, and it does for about five minutes, but they just take it entirely too far. It's worse than the Para Brothers or Ginyu Force. The saga as a whole is over 100 epiodes long, which is insane. Everything is way too drawn out (even worse than Goku vs Frieza in "five minutes") and there is way too much filler. Mr Satan is annoying and has far too many segments while characters like Piccolo, Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, and Chiaotzu are almost completely disregarded. The overpowering of the Dragon Balls takes away any emotional aspect of the series. We have already seen mass populations destroyed and restored multiple times so it is hard to care when Buu kills everyone. Then they destroy Earth, which is pretty irrelevant considering the whole population is already dead when it happens. Every character who fights Buu is painted to be a complete moron (allowing Babadi to take their energy to revive Buu, not destroying the many pieces of Buu and instead standing there gawking as he regenerates, consistently under estimating him, getting absorbed...) It's by far the worst saga of DB or Z in my book. The only ones as bad are DB's wedding arc, the Garlic Jr Saga, Super 17, and the Shadow Dragon Saga. |

It might be a bit underrated, because of all the silly ***** that happens. Here's a list 1. Piccolo, one of the best DBZ characters, does nothing. He's reduced to the same level as Krillin for crying out loud! 2. The whole "Fusion" thing...while cool at first...just seems stupid now. 3. It follows the god awful "Great Saiyaman" saga, which is the worst of DBZ. 4. Evil Buu wasn't around as long as he should have. 5. As the final saga, it ended with a lack luster "meh" Oh look, Goku's going away again. It's not like he could stay with his family. He's just gonna go off with a young boy he barely knows who is some how the good reincarnation of one of the most powerful villains in DBZ history. Makes perfect sense. |

It's my 2nd favourite saga in the entire series (Including Dragonball). I feel like it just had more life and soul into it compared to the older saga's like Saiyan and Namek. Plus, dub wise, I feel this is where Funi were at their peak, and the music was the best imo. |

It didn't do a lot for the characters compared to the Cell Saga. Sure it added plenty to Vegeta but overall we can live without it. |

The Buu saga is just atrocious in the Funi dub but in the original Japanese anime it's tolerable IMO. It's still the most inferior saga in my opinion and cannot come close to matching the Cell or Freeza arcs. Buu was not a villain on par with Cell or Freeza's personality, the minor villains were all crappy as well (Dabura Pui Pui and Babidi? Mehh). Buu was all just a Cell..he absorbed and regenerated..but at least Cell couldnt just absorb anything and didnt regenerate a hundred freakin times. I think Cell used regeneration maybe 4 times the whole series. The introduction of Goten, Kid Trunks, and Gotenks was annoying..all very annoying characters IMO. Future Trunks was so much more likeable to Kid Trunks. Another think that sucked is Piccolo became completely irrelevant. At least for the first half of the Cell arc he was right with everyone in the middle of the action and his power was still fearsome. Buu saga he's just fodder. And Gohan, teen Gohan sucked, he couldn't compare to the Gohan that fought Cell. So yeah the Buu arc really was deteriorated compared to the other arcs IMO. About the only thing I liked in the whole arc was Super Vegetto..that's it. Edited by Victorious, Jan 19 2012, 11:38 PM.

The Buu saga started off good, I liked seeing the tournament group of Goku, Vegeta, 18, Krillin, Piccolo all hanging out together. It quickly became boring after the tournament dissolved and people started chasing after Babidi's minions. Buu saga didn't really introduce any great characters, either. All the versions of Majin Buu were pretty mute. I think the fat one was the most vocal but he just babbled about candy and he was hard to take seriously even when he beat people up. The Kai's and Kaveto (think was his name) didn't do anything and were weak compared to Dabura, who turned out ot be eerily similar to Mr Satan in south park (his flower field frolicking scenes). Babidi was hard to look at since his head resembled an insect's butt. |

The story was horrible, the "amazing" plot twists weren't really amazing, and all these stupid forms and whose stronger can confuse the hell out of anybody (Kid Buu vs Super Buu, what happened to the absorbed Kais, how Fat Buu returns, etc). Plus, I always thought that it was kind of stupid how this magic sorcerer can create this invincible monster... how does he generate enough energy to even create such a thing? It really seemed like Toriyama made all these forms and plot twists because he was being pressured to continue the series for as long as possible. The only thing I really liked was SS3, Fusion, Anime Vegito, and the ending. |

Underrated implies it should be higher ranked. It's not nearly as good as the first two sagas. I would go as far as to say it was a failure but I'm not a dbzhard and I did enjoy Vegito a lot. It was decent far as entertainment goes |
