not everyone has full names, for whoever said they do. Mr. Hercule Satan is a stage name. his real name is Mark (no surname). videl also doesn't have a surname until she marries gohan, and vegeta has no surname. |

list of canon sources: the DB manga, and the Dr. Slump manga as it applies to the crossover during the rra saga. list of non canon sources: everything else, regardless of origin, format, or quality. for those that blindly follow word of god | |

Ummm, Videl has a surname, it's Satan. Videl Satan, since her dad is "Mr. Satan." |

no, her dad's real name is Mark. just Mark. Hercule Satan is his wrestling stage name, according to AT. his daughter wouldn't inherit his stage surname, since it isn't his legal surname. neither Mark nor Videl have a surname when introduced to the series, and videl doesn't gain one until she marries gohan. |

I'm not a dub purist, but then I'm not a Japanese version purist either. I use terms from both versions, and from the manga. 1. "SSJ" is something most people use, but I prefer to say "SSjin" instead. Just sounds way more awesome in my opinion. 2. I don't ever really include Goku's full name whenever I refer to him. It seems a little unnecessary. It's like calling people by their full names. Easier to say Goku. 3. In the manga it is referred to as "Room of Spirit and Time" and "Chamber of Spirit and Time" by Piccolo. So really, "RoSaT" and "CoSaT" could be used, lol. I prefer to use RoSaT though simply because it sounds a bit better in acronym form. Plus, it also sounds better than HTC, or Hyperbolic Time Chamber. That name is a little ridiculous. "Hyperbolic"? LOL 4. I used to say Frieza, but I started reading the manga, and Freeza just looked better. So I started using that instead. Plus, as was said, it goes better with the whole Ice family theme. Cold, Cooler, and Freeza. 5. Kienzan sounds a lot better than "Destructo Disc", and that's mainly why I prefer to use it. Bottom line is people, like me for instance, sometimes prefer to mix terms because they feel they look or sound better. I grew up watching the english dub on Toonami. RONIN WARRIORS FTW!!! Anybody watch that? Anyway, lol, as I started to get more and more into DBZ I read the manga, and like I explained above, some terms I just liked better than others, so I used them instead. But I won't fully convert to using Japanese terms because they seem long-winded and unnecessary. |

I've only watched dub, but I use a lot of the Japanese games because: 1. I own all of the Viz manga. 2. My cousin and I started looking up DB stuff online before it hit America; i.e., we read about SSJ4 before anyone even fought Frieza. So, a lot of the terms we had to go off of were only in Japanese because the American terms had not come out yet. We were calling that yellow haired power-up "Super Saiyajin;" it wasn't even called "Super Saiyan" yet. Edited by J-Smack, Jan 21 2012, 06:03 PM.

Vegerot actually makes more sense with the English dubbed "Kakarot". Vegetto only works in Japan where his name is "Kakarotto" Not that I ever use Vegerot... |

It never bothers me very much. I do use SSJ more than I do SS, just because it used to bother people. Then I actually watched the Japanese Verisons and it didn't matter much to me. Not saying you don't have the right for it to bug you but I mean as a longtime fan as I'm sure everyone is, we should really all be able to recognize and accept sub and dub translations and use whatever as long as it's consistent. In general I think it's just the SSJ=SS that bothers people the most. Use what you like. I didn't know what RoSaT was for the longest time when I joined. Making a room a chamber that had meaning just sounded cool so I stuck with the dub on that as well. I grew up with it so it's hard to change |

^You can walk around with a swastika on your chest, it's just frowned upon, a lot. Anyway, I was introduced to the series through the edited Funi dub, but I later fell in love with the original Japanese version, and can't watch the dub. I sometimes find myself using a hybrid between Japanese and English DBZ terms, and I think it's because of how I was introduced to the show. This also carries over to my RPG, some of the terms in our rule book are from the original Japanese, and some are from the English version, the same is true of the spellings. I find my self using Saiyan more than the Saiya-jjin, as the latter doesn't sound as natural to me. The longer I'm a fan, however, the more I use Japanese terminology, I guess I'll be using Saiya-jinn by the year 2014. XD |
