Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I just don't get the whole Sasuke bond, what a load of crap.

How were they best friends? It's not like much happened before Sasuke severed the bond.
Protected each other against Haku and Zabuza .
Learned how to stick to things with chakra, but then it was a case of just wanting to out do the other.
Forest of Death parts.
Sasuke wanting to fight Naruto because he achknowledged him.

And then they almost kill each other, and then again after that this time the bond being completely severed on Sasuke's part.
Most of the things are pretty minor and are part of being someone's team mate not best friend.

Really the whole bond thing seems more one sided on Naruto's part Sasuke never seemed to care just insulted Naruto for being weak then turned in to a whiney little child when Naruto got stronger.

They don't have that many moments(I'm not up to speed with the manga) but Gaara and Naruto seem to have a far better bond and far more mutual.

Naruto saves Gaara from himself and allows him to know friendship.
They both know the pain of being a jinchuriki and can understand each other on a whole different level.
Gaara becomes Kazekage and the whole village respects and admires him because of Naruto leading Gaara to be able to sacrifice himself for other people.
Because of Naruto's influence Gaara even manages to cry because it becomes his responsability to kill Sasuke and neither he nor Naruto could steer him away from darkness.
Naruto has a true feeling of happiness upon hearing Gaara became Kazekage.
Naruto goes out of his way to save Gaara and cries uncontrolably when he failed to save his friend.

In my opinion Naruto and Gaara have a far better and deeper friendship it's not just sheer rivalry.

What do you think?

I think that the friendship was more one-sided, but I do think that the two respected each other. They began as rivals who had to learn quickly to trust and rely on one another. Being a team obviously made the two of them grow close. When Sasuke says that he wants to fight Naruto during the Chunin Exams, he means that Naruto has grown, and this makes Naruto proud of himself. Naruto wanted to fight Sasuke to prove himself. It was never about "out doing" each other until the very end when Sasuke had let his obsession with power take over him.

I'm not saying that I like the relationship. I don't think that they truly developed to be "best friends," but I do think that Sasuke acknowledged the fact that Naruto was good to him, and that he was the only friend who had ever truly cared about him. They did care for each other. I think the main reason that Naruto is so obsessed with getting Sasuke back is because he feels like it's partially his fault, and he doesn't want to lose his comrade.

That was my unbiased look at things, since I actually hate Sasuke and don't really support the friendship.

If anything, I think that Naruto and Sakura grew to be better friends than he and Sasuke, but that's just my opinion. I don't really agree with how Sakura played with his feelings, though.

Yeah I suppose they were best friends, given that they were each others only friend at the time well kind of.

It's hardly a close friendship though I don't think it's worthy of the lengths Naruto goes to, to salvage it.
Yeah I'd say that about Naruto and Sakura too obviously Naruto loves her but they do care. Naruto is practically the only person Sasuke botheed with save for a few Sakura moments.

I just don't like how the story comes to revolve around Naruto and Sasuke it's got way out of hand to make much sense. Other than just generally changing it's easy to see why Sasuke wouldn't care much for being friends again.
By out doing I meant different things for both of them Sasuke didn't want to lose to Naruto because he was adamant he's better than him and is obviously pretty proud of being an Uchiha and for Naruto what you said :P

Even if Sasuke never went off to Orochimaru I doubt the friendship would last that long anyway Sasuke always cared too much for avenging his clan.

If you were to look at all the friendship moments for Naruto and Sasuke in a manga bok it wouldn't be very long anyway, I highly doubt many people would consider someone their best friend through what happens unless you're destined to be best friends it doesn't happen that quick relationships obviously have to be built up.
If only Kishimoto made part 1 a bit longer with more canon Naruto and Sasuke stuff.

I think the relationship is mainly off screen and unspoken.

The biggest two actual moments would be the Haku one and where Sasuke decided he wouldn't kill Naruto (he actually couldn't kill him, the whim thing was a lie). Naruto could relate to Sasuke's loneliness or something.

I think it's because Naruto considers Sasuke as his "first" friend. Obviously, it was made clear that Naruto was ignored as a child and didn't have anyone. Sasuke was the first to actually give him any respect (saying he wanted to fight him in the Chunnin Exams), which Naruto has said he wants more than anything else. VOTE fight was all about how he thought of him as a brother. Then theres the whole absence makes the heart grow stronger thing and his promise to Sakura (although that's not really a part of it anymore). Naruto also sees himself in Sasuke, he could have ended up going down that path. Finally, I think he feels guilty about it more than anything else. He took it upon himself to bring him back and he has failed to do it twice.

Yeah the bond is definitely more one sided even before Sasuke left which is why I prefer the one with Gaara. Wih Gaara they weren't that far apart and before he realised the same for Sasuke he understood that he could have turned out like Gaara and how alone he must also feel.

Naruto and Sasuke's friendship was ended before it had even nearly fully developed but Naruto and Gaara's is ongoing and they both wish to protect each other equally.

Kind of makes you wonder if Sasuke was ever really part of the bond or if he always sought out to get a rival so he could gain that power. Well I onder anyway maybe he just pitied Naruto and told him he cared, maybe Sasuke will reveal something along those lines in their fight or next meeting.

Sasuke did care, he admits that much himself. After that battle he seemed to feel a little guilty about leaving. Although, 3 years with Orochimaru killed off any connection from Sasuke's side.

Yeah, a lot of the relationship was offscreen and unspoken, but eh, I know how that kind of bond works, prepare for an explanation.

When two people of equal power are brought together, they hate eachother because they like eachother.
Basically, Naruto and Sasuke's bond was more a bond of mutual respect than friendship, but thats obviously what they chose to call it.
From the respect, though Naruto's feelings of it grew to friendship, too, which is understandable, Sasuke only returned these feelings for a while.

Also, if Sasuke had not left the leaf, Their bond would have grown, because obviously, regardless, Naruto would have gone to help Sasuke kill Itachi, and chances are they both might have been at kage summit levels at the start of shippuden if they had stayed, as Sasuke might have got a different type of training, Naruto would have still got a decent amount of Jiraiya training, all that.

In conclusion, Sasuke would probably have the MS and the curse mark if he had stayed(Which would be a very dangerous opponent O_O)

But, in canon, I agree, Gaara and Naruto have a greater bond at this point in time.
