I honestly don't get why gohan had to be the one to beat cell. It didn't make sense as far as what dragon ball z had been about from the beginning up to the fights with frieza. All through the battles with the saiyans on earth and the battles on namek, it was the near death beat downs that bumped goku's and vegeta's powers over the top so they could win against frieza's top forces. During the android and cell episodes these repeated beat downs all the sudden stop having anything to do with heightening the saiyan's powers. Vegeta, trunks, and goku go through near death experiences in fighting the androids as well as goku's heart thing, and they continue to be active meanwhile gohan is getting told to do homework for the most part. That whole period the most strenuous thing gohan did was carry yajirobi (which he had difficulty with) until the hyperbolic time chamber. Sad to say, after gohan beat cell it was downhill for dragon ball z. No more good episodes afterwards, but up until that time the show was amazing. Goku's the underdog of everything, but I would've liked seeing vegeta beat cell.

It was shown from the very first fight in DBZ, the Raditz fight, that Gohan had some crazy hidden power. It was built up all the way to the Rosat. Once Cell proved to be to much for even Goku, Gohan finally let that power go and finished off an enemy no one thought they could beat. That is why Gohan is the only clear option to kill Cell.

Btw, you dont think there was a single good episode after Gohan beat Cell?

Gohan had random tantrums that boosted his power. Goku had the same thing as a kid in the original dragon ball where his power would sky rocket when he was upset. Vegeta has the same thing when he gets backed into a corner. However, gohan's tantrums rarely did anything major besides lock garlic jr in the dead zone. He chipped Raditz' armor (so what?), he made recoom giggle, got 1 or 2 lucky punches on frieza (which didn't hurt him at all) when he was in second form. Nothing major.

Honestly I don't. I tried watching several episodes and found them to be just plain goofy or boring. Very drastic change from what dragon ball z had always been. Makes me wonder what happened.
