Why didn't Gohan go SS3?

I think it's because he would look to much like Goku.

What do you guys think?

Because it was inefficient. SSjin 3 comes with a huge strain on the body and immense chi drain. Ultimate comes with none of that and more power.

well, first of all it wouldn't make sense if he went ssj3 because if anybody is gonna go ssj3 after Goku it'd be Vegeta

second of all,IMO SSJ3 looks cool only on Goku,it looks idiotic on Vegeta and on Gohan(but this is only my opinion)

and what Kamikaze Pyro said
Reality is an illusion caused by the lack of alcohol

I thought only full blooded Saiyans could transform into an SSJ3?

I think KamikazePyro summarized the in universe reason why.

I think story wise it gave Gohan a unique transformation from everybody else. First, Super Saiyan 2 was exclusive to him and that stopped during the Buu arc. It provided all the adult Saiyans something special in fact. Vegeta has Majin powers, Goku has SSJ3 and Gohan has his ulitmate power thingy majiggy.

and the funny part is that theoretically, if you put majin, ssj3, or ultimate on the same character, they would be the same power. they gave all three of them different power ups, but it all comes down to the exact same thing: here's you're true power, here's the drawback (majin: must be possessed. ssj3: hard to maintain. ultimate: must sit in front of ugly old pervert for 25 hours, and lose awesome transformations)
list of canon sources:

the DB manga, and the Dr. Slump manga as it applies to the crossover during the rra saga.

list of non canon sources:

everything else, regardless of origin, format, or quality.

for those that blindly follow word of god
