One day, even before Dragon Ball Kai was announced, I decided to try to edit out the filler in the anime. I used the season sets to do it and I created a bunch of DVD's all the way up to the end of the Freeza saga with little to no filler. It was pretty good, but reeked of amateur editing.

Once Dragon Ball Kai was released I was surprised how my edits were pretty similar to Kai, though I was disappointed with the amount of filler they left in. There is still plenty of material to cut out.

Now, I am working on my own edit of Dragon Ball Kai in beautiful 1080p resolution! I have edited the entire Saiyan Saga into one long, long movie: 4 hours and 46 minutes! I removed even more filler that was left in Kai and now it is about 98% accurate to the manga. I even removed the background music so I could put my own soundtrack in, and also so I could make cleaner edits so one episode would flow seamlessly into another one.

I had to watch the entire Saga without any background music at all and I must say that it is very interesting. I became more engaged with the scene because I was focused entirely on the plot and the characters. I also plan on removing certain scene that were actually in the manga but do not further plot or character development, such as when Kami was yelled at by King Yemma/Enma Daio.

When I finally finish this project I'll have a new soundtrack made up of the best musical scores from composers like Hanz Zimmer(The Dark Knight, Inception), Danny Elfman(Spider-Man 2, Hellboy 2) and more. I'll also add more vivid sound effects to make those explosions and ki blasts really pack a punch.

Here is a preview so you can get a sense of what the final product will be like. I have horizontally flipped the image to avoid copyright infringement. After I complete the project I have to figure out how to share it with my fellow DBZ fans while avoiding the wrath of Toei.

I think it's a great idea. Just don't go crazy with removing scenes that were in the manga.

I only plan on removing extraneous or irrelevant scenes, like throwaway jokes and gags.
